Intel HD Graphics 5500
De Intel Iris Graphics 5500 (GT2) is een geïntegreerde Broadwell grafische kaart die voorgesteld werd in het eerste kwartaal van 2015. Hij kan aangetroffen worden in verschillende ULV-SoC's (15 W TDP) zoals de Core i5-5200U of i7-5600U. Terwijl Core i5- en Core i7-chips over 24 EU's beschikken, heeft de Core i3-versie er maar 23. Afhankelijk van de specifieke CPU, varieert de maximale kloksnelheid van de GPU tussen 850 en 950 MHz.
Broadwell komt met een GPU gebaseerd op de Intel Gen8-architectuur, die geoptimaliseerd werd op verschillende vlakken vergeleken met de vorige Gen7.5 (Haswell). Zo werden onder andere de shader arrays, genaamd "subslices", gereorganiseerd en beschikken ze nu elk over 8 Execution Units (EU's). Drie subslices vormen samen een "slice" voor een totaal van 24 EU's. In combinatie met andere verbeteringen, zoals grotere L1-caches en een geoptimaliseerd front-end, is de geïntegreerde GPU hierdoor sneller en efficiënter dan zijn voorgangers geworden.
De Iris Graphics 5500 vertegenwoordigt de mid-range-versie van de Broadwell GPU-familie en bestaat uit één slice met 24 EU's. Daarnaast zijn er ook een instapversie (GT1, 12 EU's) en meer high-end modellen (GT3/GT3e + eDRAM, 48 EU's).
Alle Broadwell-GPU's ondersteunen OpenCL 2.0 en DirectX 11.2. De video-engine kan nu H.265 decoderen met zowel vaste, hiervoor bedoelde hardware als met beschikbare GPU-shaders. Tot en met drie schermen kunnen aangesloten worden via DP 1.2/eDP 1.3 (max. 3840 x 2160 @ 60 Hz) of HDMI 1.4a (max. 3840 x 2160 @ 24 Hz). HDMI 2.0 wordt echter niet ondersteund.
Afhankelijk van de specifieke CPU, varieert de maximale kloksnelheid van de GPU tussen 850 en 950 MHz. Door het lage TDP zal de gemiddelde kloksnelheid bij 3D-applicaties echter wat lager liggen.
Uitgerust met snel dual-channel-geheugen is de HD Graphics 5500 zo'n 20 - 25 procent sneller dan de HD Graphics 4400 (Haswell, 20 EU's); ook de HD Graphics 5000 (Haswell, 40 EU's) wordt overtroffen. Niettemin is zelfs een low-end dedicated GeForce 820M ongeveer 10 - 30 procent sneller dan de HD 5500. Games van 2014/2015 zullen doorgaans alleen vloeiend speelbaar zijn met (zeer) lage instellingen.
De Broadwell LV-chips, die gebruik maken van een nieuw 14-nm-proces, zijn afgestemd op een TDP van slechts 15 W en zijn daarom geschikt voor dunne ultrabooks. Het TDP is flexibel en kan verder verlaagd worden (7.5 of 10 W), wat een aanzienlijke impact heeft op de prestaties.
