De NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 laptop GPU (codenaam GN21-X9) is een high-end laptop GPU. Het is gebaseerd op de AD104-chip als de desktop RTX 4070 Ti en maakt gebruik van de Ada Lovelace-architectuur. De AD104-chip biedt maximaal 7.680 shaders (bijvoorbeeld de RTX 4070 Ti Desktop) waarvan de RTX 4080 Laptop 7.424 en een 192 Bit-geheugenbus gebruikt. De RTX 4080 mobiel gebruikt 12 GB GDDR6 speciaal grafisch geheugen met een kloksnelheid van 16 of 20 Gbps (effectief). De TGP (Total Graphics Power) kan worden geconfigureerd tussen 60 en 150 Watt (+ 25 Watt Dynamic Boost van de CPU), wat leidt tot verschillende prestatieniveaus (de desktop RTX 4070 Ti gebruikt 285 Watt ter vergelijking). De boostkloksnelheid varieert van 1350 MHz (bij 60 Watt TGP) tot 2280 MHz (150W). Daarom zijn de prestaties ook sterk afhankelijk van de energie-instelling die wordt gebruikt voor de RTX 4080 mobiel in de laptop.
De synthetische prestaties van de RTX 4080 liggen in onze tests duidelijk boven die van de mobiele RTX 3080 Ti en worden alleen overtroffen door de mobiele RTX 4090. In daadwerkelijke games zagen we dat zelfs veeleisende games met Raytracing ingeschakeld (zoals F1 23) in QHD konden worden gespeeld en maximale instellingen. Minder veeleisende games zoals Baldur's Gate 3 kunnen vloeiend gespeeld worden in 4k (zie resultaten hieronder).
De RTX 4080 biedt 232 tensorcores (4e generatie) die DLSS 3 mogelijk maken, inclusief framegeneratie voor ondersteunde games. Bovendien kunnen 58 raytracing-cores (4e generatie) worden gebruikt voor raytracing-effecten in ondersteunde games.
De AD103-chip wordt vervaardigd op 5 nm bij TSMC (4N-proces).
