AMD Radeon Pro 5500M
De AMD Radeon Pro 5500M is een mobile mid-range grafische kaart gebaseerd op de Navi 14-chip (RDNA-architectuur) gefabriceerd in het moderne 7-nm-proces. De kaart beschikt over alle 24 CU's (= 1536 shaders) van de chip en dus 2 meer CU's dan de mobile Radeon RX 5500M en RX 5500 voor desktops. De kloksnelheid van de GPU en het geheugen werd echter heel wat verlaagd in de Pro-modellen. De GPU werd geïntroduceerd in de high-end modellen van de Apple MacBook Pro 16 met 4 of 8 GB GDDR6 grafisch geheugen.
De Navi 14-chip maakt gebruik van de nieuwe RDNA-microarchitectuur (Radeon DNA), wat de opvolger is van de GCN-instructieset. De architectuur biedt een nieuw processor-design, een multi-level cache-hiërarchie en een verbeterde rendering-pipeline met ondersteuning voor GDDR6-geheugen.
De prestaties van de Pro 5500M zijn tot 2.1x hoger dan die van de oude Radeon RX 560X (voorganger). Hoewel de GPU twee meer CU's heeft dan de Radeon RX 5500M, leiden de lagere kloksnelheden volgens AMD tot 13% lagere piekprestaties (4 t.o.v. 4.6 TFLOPS). De gaming-prestaties zouden dus iets onder die van de Radeon RX 5500M moeten liggen, die op zijn beurt ongeveer 1.9x sneller was dan de Pro 560X (Alpha 15 t.o.v. MBP15 2019) in games onder Windows. In vergelijking met Nividia-GPU's zouden de prestaties dus tussen die van de GeForce GTX 1650 en GeForce GTX 1060 moeten liggen.
De vergelijkbare RX 5500M-chip is ingesteld op een TDP van 85 Watt en dus 20 Watt hoger dan de lager geklokte Radeon RX5300M. In games zou het energieverbruik van de chip tussen 64 en 105 Watt liggen (Ghost Recon gameplay gemeten met HWInfo64). Volgens AMD is de Pro 5500M echter ingesteld op een TGP van 50 Watt, waardoor deze wellicht gebruik maakt van speciaal geselecteerde chips.
