NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q
De Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 met Max-Q-design is de energiezuinige variant van de mobile RTX 2070 met verlaagde kloksnelheden en energieverbruik. De kaart is dus geschikt voor dunne gaming-laptops. Hij is gebaseerd op dezelfde TU106-chip als de desktop- en laptop-variant en biedt 2304 shaders en 8 GB GDDR6-geheugen met een 256-bit-interface (12 GHz).
Momenteel lijken er twee varianten te bestaan: een extra zuinige 80-Watt-variant met 885 - 1185 Mhz core-kloksnelheid en een snellere 90-Watt-variant met 1080 - 1305 MHz core-kloksnelheid. Beide klokken hun geheugen aan 6 GHz t.o.v. de 7 GHz van de normale RTX 2070 (115 Watt TDP).
De kloksnelheid is echter niet het enige verschil ten opzichte van de gewone RTX 2070. De drivers voor de Max-Q-versie werden geoptimaliseerd voor efficiëntie (en niet prestaties; enkel voor Max-Q-modellen), er zijn geoptimaliseerde voltage-convertoren voor 1V-operatie, hoogwaardige koelingmethodes en een limiet van 40 dB voor het ventilatorgeluid (met aangepaste kloksnelheden om dit te allen tijde te verzekeren).
Nvidia fabriceert de Turing TU106-chip op een 12-nm FinFET-proces en implementeert features zoals Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) en Real-Time Ray-Tracing (RTRT), wat zou moeten leiden tot meer realistische lichteffecten dan met oudere GPU's gebaseerd op Nvidia's Pascal-architectuur (als games dit ondersteunen). De RTX 2070 biedt ondersteuning voor DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.0b, HDR, Simultaneous Multi-Projection (SMP) en video en-/decoderen van H.265 (PlayReady 3.0).
De RTX 2070 Max-Q zou iets trager moeten zijn dan een gewone, mobile RTX 2070 en zou dus alle veeleisende games moeten aankunnen in 2560x1440 met maximale instellingen. Ray-tracing-features kunnen de framerate echter drastisch verlagen.
