Intel Iris Pro Graphics 6200

De Intel Iris Pro Graphics 6200 (GT3e) is een geïntegreerde grafische kaart en de snelste GPU van de Broadwell-generatie. De GPU is ingebouwd in verschillende high-end CPU's met een TDP van 47 Watt. De zogenaamde GT3e GPU beschikt over een snel eDRAM-cache en 48 EU's (Execution Units) en biedt daarom iets meer shader-rekenkracht dan de vorige Iris Pro Graphics 5200. De kloksnelheid hangt af van het model waarin de GPU is geïntegreerd (tot en met 1150 MHz met Turbo Boost).

Architectuur & Features

Broadwell komt met een GPU gebaseerd op de Intel Gen8-architectuur, die op verschillende vlakken werd geoptimaliseerd ten opzichte van de vorige Gen7.5 (Haswell). Zo werden de shader arrays, 'subslice' genaamd, geherorganiseerd en bieden ze nu elk 8 Execution Units (EU's). Drie subslices vormen een "slice" voor een totaal van 24 EU's. In combinatie met andere verbeteringen, waaronder een groter L1-cache en een geoptimaliseerd frontend, is de geïntegreerde GPU sneller en efficiënter geworden dan zijn voorganger.

De Iris Pro Graphics 6200 vertegenwoordigt de high-end GT3e-versie van de Broadwell-familie van GPU's en bestaat uit twee slices met 48 EU's in totaal. Daarnaast is er ook een snel eDRAM-cache (128 MB), dat alleen bij de Iris Pro wordt aangetroffen.

Alle Broadwell-GPU's ondersteunen OpenCL 2.0 en DirectX 12 (FL 11_1). De video-engine kan nu H.265 decoderen met zowel fixed-function hardware als beschikbare GPU-shaders. Maximaal drie schermen kunnen aangesloten worden via DP 1.2/eDP 1.3 (max. 3840 x 2160 @ 60 Hz) of HDMI 1.4a (max. 3840 x 2160 @ 24 Hz). HDMI 2.0 wordt echter niet ondersteund.

Prestaties

Afhankelijk van de benchmark zijn de prestaties van de Iris Pro Graphics ongeveer van hetzelfde niveau als een dedicated GeForce GT 750M of GeForce 940M. Veel games van 2014/2015 zijn vloeiend speelbaar in WXGA-resolutie (1366 x 768) en gemiddelde detailinstellingen. Erg veeleisende games als The Witcher 3 zullen echter lagere resoluties en/of details noodzakelijk maken.

Stroomverbruik

De Iris Pro Graphics 6200, die gebruik maakt van een nieuw 14nm-FinFET-proces, is afgestemd op een TDP van 47 Watt (gehele chip, inclusief CPU, GPU en geheugencontroller) en is daarom geschikt voor notebooks met een gemiddeld formaat. Het TDP is flexibel en kan verder verlaagd worden (37 Watt), wat de prestaties aanzienlijk beïnvloedt.
