AMD oefent veel druk uit op Intel met de release van de Ryzen 3000-familie. Het bedrijf heeft ook veel goed gedaan, en nieuwe concurrentie in de desktop CPU-markt zou als muziek in de oren van consumenten moeten klinken. Eigenaren van een huidig Intel-platform hoeven zich echter geen zorgen te maken, omdat de Core i9-9900K beter geschikt is voor gaming dan de Ryzen 9 3900X. Als je je pc uitsluitend voor gaming gebruikt, blijft Intel de betere keuze.
De gestage verbeteringen werpen nu hun vruchten af, waarbij AMD de single-core prestaties van haar desktopprocessors aanzienlijk heeft verbeterd. De Ryzen 9 3900X bereikt bijna de hoogten van de Core i9-9900K in single-core taken en presteert ook goed in multi-core taken. Games zijn echter nog steeds de specialiteit van de Core i9-9900K.
We raden echter aan om de Ryzen 9 3900X te overwegen als je een streamer of content creator bent, omdat de processor uitblinkt in multi-core werk. Beter nog, het heeft op een of andere manier een relatief laag stroomverbruik voor een 12-core chip. AMD heeft ook grotendeels het single-core prestatietekort weggenomen dat bestond tussen Intel-processors en de Ryzen 2000-serie: de Ryzen 9 3900X komt nu dicht in de buurt van de Core i9-9900K. Momenteel profiteren games niet van meer dan 8 cores, maar dat kan in de toekomst veranderen, waardoor de Ryzen 9 3900X in een goede positie zou komen.
De Ryzen 9 3900X kost $590, hoewel de beschikbaarheid momenteel schaars is. Daarom ligt de processor bij de lancering qua prijs mogelijk dichter bij de Core i9-9900K, maar de prijzen zouden uiteindelijk moeten dalen, waardoor de Ryzen 9 3900X meer waar voor zijn geld biedt dan de huidige toonaangevende desktopprocessor van Intel.
Het blijft jammer dat alleen de X570-chipset kan profiteren van PCIe 4.0. De X470- en B450-moederbords ondersteunen de nieuwe Matisse-processors wel na een BIOS-update. Zelfs de oudere X370- en B350-moederbords zijn ook gedeeltelijk compatibel, wat een bonus is. We raden echter aan te controleren of je moederbord overweg kan met een Ryzen 3000-chip voordat je er een koopt.
Uiteindelijk zouden de PCIe 4.0-beperkingen voor de meeste mensen geen dealbreaker moeten zijn, omdat het op dit moment weinig praktisch voordeel biedt in games boven PCIe 3.0, ondanks de hogere bandbreedte.
Over het algemeen is de Ryzen 9 3900X momenteel de beste desktopcomputer voor consumenten op de markt dankzij de uitstekende multi-coreprestaties. De Core i9-9900K heeft een voorsprong op AMD's 12-core Zen 2-chip, maar we raden alleen aan de eerste te kiezen boven de laatste als het aantal FPS van uiterst belang is.
