De AMD Ryzen 5 6600U is een processor voor dunne en lichte laptops op basis van de Rembrandt-generatie. De R5 6500U integreert zes van de acht kernen op basis van de Zen 3+ microarchitectuur. Ze zijn geklokt op 2,9 (gegarandeerde basisklok) tot 4,5 GHz (Turbo) en ondersteunen SMT / Hyperthreading (16 threads). De chip wordt gefabriceerd in het moderne 6 nm proces bij TSMC. Vergeleken met de vergelijkbare R6 6600H, biedt de 6800U een lagere basiskloksnelheid en een lager TDP.
De nieuwe Zen 3+ is een opfrissing van de Zen 3 architectuur en zou niet veel veranderingen moeten bieden. De chip zelf biedt echter een hoop nieuwe mogelijkheden, zoals ondersteuning voor USB 4 (40 Gbps), PCI-E Gen 4, DDR5-4800MT/s of LPDDR5-6400MT/s, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth LE 5.2, DisplayPort 2, en AV1 decodering.
De processorprestaties zouden duidelijk beter moeten zijn dan die van de oude Ryzen 5 5600U, dankzij de verbeterde kloksnelheid. De nieuwe Alder Lake U- en P-serie CPU's, zoals de i5-1260P, zouden echter hogere prestaties moeten bieden.
In de 6000-serie is AMD eindelijk overgestapt op de huidige RDNA 2 grafische architectuur voor de iGPU. De 6600H biedt alleen de kleine Radeon 660M met 6 van de 12 CU's ingeschakeld en 1,9 GHz max. kloksnelheid.
Het TDP van de APU wordt gespecificeerd op 15 - 28 Watt (standaard). De energie-efficiëntie zou zeer goed moeten zijn, dankzij het verbeterde 6nm-proces en de extra energiebesparende functies in de 6000-serie.
