AMD A12-9700P
De AMD A12-9700P is een mainstream SoC van de Bristol-Ridge-serie van APU's voor notebooks (7de APU-generatie), die aangekondigd werd in het midden van 2016. De ULV-chip met een TDP van 15 Watt (kan geconfigureerd worden met 12 Watt) heeft vier CPU-cores (twee Excavator-modules), een Radeon R7-GPU en een dual-channel DDR4-1866-geheugencontroller. Carrizo is een volwaardig SoC en is ook uitgerust met een geïntegreerde chipset, die over alle I/O-poorten beschikt.
Bristol Ridge is de opvolger van de Carrizo-architectuur en het design is praktisch onveranderd gebleven. Dankzij het geoptimaliseerde fabricageproces en de agressievere Boost zijn de kloksnelheden echter iets hoger voor hetzelfde energieverbruik. De geheugencontroller biedt nu ook ondersteuning voor DDR4-RAM, in dit geval tot en met 1866 MHz. Meer technische details zijn te vinden in de volgende artikels:

De prestaties van de A12-9700P liggen tussen die van de twee 15-Watt-processors A10-9600P en FX-9800P, wat de CPU ongeveer even snel zou maken als respectievelijk een 15-Watt-Core i3 van de Skylake- of Kaby Lake-serie. De AMD-chip heeft een kleine voorsprong ten opzichte van het model van Intel in multi-thread-scenario's, maar wordt verslagen wanneer je alleen één of twee cores belast. Door de beperking van het TDP daalt de performance van de A12-9700P aanzienlijk bij aanhoudende belasting.
Dit betekent dat er voldoende performance is voor typische office- en webapplicaties evenals lichte multi-tasking.
De geïntegreerde Radeon R7-GPU (Bristol Ridge) heeft 512 actieve shader-units (8 compute-cores) geklokt aan maximaal 758 MHz. Dankzij het beter gebruik van de Boost en ondersteuning voor sneller DDR4-RAM kan de GPU zijn voorganger, Radeon R7 (Carrizo), juist verslaan en kan hij in het beste geval concurreren met een discrete GeForce 920MX (dual-channel-geheugen, lage CPU-vereisten). Veel games van 2015/2016 zijn vlot speelbaar met lage instellingen.
AMD bepaalt voor de A12-9700P een TDP van 15 Watt, wat vergelijkbaar is met de ULV-modellen van Intel. Dit betekent dat de CPU een prima keuze is voor dunne notebooks van het 12-inch-formaat of groter.
