Intel i7-7Y75

De Intel Core i7-7Y75 is een erg efficiënte dual-core-processor voor tablets en passief gekoelde notebooks gebaseerd op de Kaby Lake-architectuur en werd voorgesteld in augustus 2016. De CPU bevat twee processor-cores geklokt aan 1.3 - 3.6 GHz. Dankzij Hyper Threading kan de processor tot en met vier cores in parallel uitvoeren. De chip bevat ook een HD Graphics 615-GPU, een dual-channel-geheugencontroller (DDR3L/LPDDR3) en een VP9- en H.265-capabele video-decoder en -encoder. De Core i7-7Y75 is gefabriceerd in een 14nm-proces met FinFET-transistoren.

Architectuur

Intel maakt voor Kaby Lake in feite gebruik van dezelfde micro-architectuur als Skylake, waardoor de per-MHz-prestaties onveranderd zijn gebleven. De fabrikant heeft alleen de Speed Shift-technologie herwerkt om sneller voltages en kloksnelheden dynamisch aan te passen, terwijl het verbeterde 14nm-proces veel hogere frequenties en efficiëntie toelaat dan voordien.

Prestaties

Ondanks de gewijzigde designatie is de Core i7-7Y75 de opvolger van de Core m7-6Y75 (Skylake Y-serie), waardoor de chip niet hetzelfde prestatieniveau als de andere Core i-processors bereikt (door zijn lagere TDP). Dankzij zijn hoge Turbo-kloksnelheid kan de 7Y75 zich soms meten met de 15-Watt-modellen voor korte periodes van belasting en single-thread-scenario's, maar de kloksnelheden zullen sterk teruggeschroefd worden bij aanhoudende belasting. De CPU is niettemin toereikend voor meer veeleisende applicaties en multi-tasking.

Graphics

De geïntegreerde Intel HD Graphics 615 heeft 24 Execution Units (EU's) zoals de oude HD Graphics 515 en is geklokt aan 300 tot 1050 MHz in combinatie met deze processor. De prestaties hangen sterk af van de geheugenconfiguratie; de GPU zou zich in combinatie met snel LPDDR3-1866 dual-channel-geheugen moeten kunnen meten met de HD Graphics 520, maar kan in andere scenario's ook veel trager zijn. Moderne games (2016) zullen niet of nauwelijks speelbaar zijn in de laagste instellingen.

In tegenstelling tot Skylake biedt Kaby Lake nu ook hardware-ondersteuning voor H.265/HEVC Main 10 met een 10-bit-kleurdiepte evenals Google's VP9-codec.

Energieverbruik

De chip is gefabriceerd in een verbeterd 14nm-proces met FinFET-transistoren, wat de efficiëntie nog verder heeft verbeterd. Het typische TDP voor de Y-serie bedraagt 4.5 Watt, maar dit kan in beide richtingen aangepast worden afhankelijk van het gebruiksscenario.
