De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.

Ter vergelijking: 52 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 8758 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

De Acer Swift 7 SF714 is een ultra-compacte subnotebook die erg geschikt is voor mobiel gebruik. De Swift 7 is in alle opzichten net wat beter dan zijn voorganger; het grootste verschil is het grotere 14-inch multitouchbeeldscherm. Acer heeft ook de behuizing herzien om de nieuwe Swift 7 nog dunner te maken dan zijn voorganger. Helaas heeft dit de stabiliteit wel wat minder gemaakt.

Acer heeft de beperkte poortselectie in stand gehouden met de nieuwste Swift 7, maar we verwelkomen de toevoeging van een LTE-modem. We hadden liever ook gezien dat Acer een kaartlezer ingebouwd had, dit zou de flexibiliteit verder ten goede gekomen zijn.

We hebben echter veel waardering voor de meegeleverde accessoires. De sleeve voelt premium aan en is goed gemaakt. Dit geld ook voor de USB Type-C hub, die het aantal poorten van de Swift 7 uitbreidt met een USB Type-A poort en een HDMI-poort.

De Acer Swift 7 SF714 is in alle opzichten net wat beter dan zijn voorganger, met name door het grotere multitouchbeeldscherm. De prijs is ook veranderd, namelijk hoger. Heeft Acer daarmee een fout begaan?

Een groot punt van kritiek op de Swift 7 is de prijs. De Acer Swift 7 SF714 kost een forse € 1699, waarmee de prijs/prestaties-verhouding aanzienlijk slechter is dan zijn voorganger. Potentiële kopers moeten zichzelf afvragen of de vernieuwingen en iets hogere prestaties de verhoging in prijs waard zijn.

We kunnen de Acer Swift 7 SF714 door de hoge adviesprijs niet zonder meer aanraden.

Een ander punt van kritiek dat we hebben betreft het touchpad. Deze heeft geen klik-mechanisme waarmee het behoorlijk lastig in gebruik is.

Al met al is de Acer Swift 7 SF714 een intelligente en ultra-mobiele notebook met een indrukwekkende batterijduur, die enigszins naar beneden gehaald wordt door de hoge prijs.
