Qualcomm SD 8cx Gen 2 5G

De Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 5G Compute Platform (of SD8cx Gen2, SC8180XP) is een op ARM gebaseerde SoC voor Windows-laptops. Het integreert een gelijkaardig CPU-gedeelte als de Snapdragon 855 (dezelfde kernen, maar zonder de Prime Core-functie) en wordt gefabriceerd in 7nm bij Samsung. De 4 Kryo 495 Gold kernen zijn gebaseerd op de ARM Cortex-A76 architectuur (voor prestaties) en geklokt op 3,15 GHz onder belasting. De 4 Kryo 495 Silver-kernen zijn kleine ARM Cortex-A55-kernen voor energie-efficiëntie en geklokt op 1,8 GHz onder belasting (hoogstwaarschijnlijk).

In vergelijking met de voorganger, de Snapdragon 8cx, biedt de Gen 2 hogere kloksnelheden en een geïntegreerde 5G-modem (X55 met Sub-6 GHz en mmWave-ondersteuning). Wi-Fi werd ook opgevoerd naar Wi-Fi 6

De prestaties van de processor zouden volgens Qualcomm vergelijkbaar moeten zijn met die van een Intel Core i5 8th gen U-serie (bv. i5-8250U). Dit is echter alleen het geval voor native ARM64 gecompileerde Windows apps en dat zijn er niet zo veel (medio 2019). 32 bit applicaties en games voor AMD/Intel draaien in een nogal trage emulatie en 64 bit apps starten helemaal niet op (maar een emulator zou in 2021 in Windows moeten komen).

De geïntegreerde Adreno 680 grafische kaart zou ook een beetje hoger geklokt kunnen worden.

De chip is zeer energiezuinig omdat hij wordt geproduceerd bij TSMC in het moderne 7-proces. Daarom kunnen laptops die gebruik maken van de Snapdragon 8cx passief worden gekoeld (geen ventilator) en zouden ze niet moeten haperen bij constante belasting.
