Qualcomm SD 865

De Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Mobile Platform is een high-end SoC voor smartphones en tablets voorgesteld door Qualcomm in december 2019. De SoC integreert een snelle Prime Core die klokt tot 2.84 GHz en drie andere performante cores die tot 2.42 GHz kunnen halen. Deze worden bijgestaan door vier energiezuinige ARM Cortex-A55-cores die klokken tot max. 1.8 GHz. Het verschil met de oudere Snapdragon 855 is de sprong van Cortex-A76 naar de snellere Cortex-A77-architectuur. De kloksnelheden zijn hetzelfde gebleven.

De Snapdragon 855 hoort dus bij de snelste mobile processors voor Android-gebaseerde systemen. In sommige multi-core-werklasten kan de SD865 zich zelfs meten met de Apple A13-SoC. Single-thread blijft echter een sterkte van de Apple-SoC's.

In vergelijking met de vorige generaties beschikt de Snapdragon 865 niet meer over een geïntegreerde LTE-modem, maar moet de chip gecombineerd worden met de nieuwe X55 5G-modem, die ook ondersteuning biedt voor LTE Cat 24/22. De WiFi-module (FastConnect 6800) is echter nog altijd geïntegreerd en ondersteunt WiFi 6 (802.11ax), 8x8 MU-MIMU en 60 GHz 802.11ay met max. 10 Gbps. Bluetooth 5.1 wordt eveneens ondersteund, inclusief aptX Adaptive.

De geïntegreerde GPU heet nu Adreno 650 en zou 20% betere prestaties moeten bieden dan de Adreno 640 in de Snapdragon 855.

De Hexagon 698 DSP biedt nu verbeterde KI-prestaties van max. 15 TOPS (t.o.v. 7 TOPS in de 855) en maakt nog altijd gebruik van een combinatie van CPU, GPU, HVX en Tensor-cores. De Spectra 480 ISP is nu ook aanzienlijk sneller. De geïntegreerde Computer Vision Engine (CV-ISP) biedt nu ondersteuning voor Dolby Vision, 8K-video's en 200-megapixel-foto's

De ingebouwde geheugencontroller ondersteunt LPDDR5 met max. 2750 MHz en LPDDR4X met 2133 MHz.

De Snapdragon 855 wordt gefabriceerd bij TSMC in het nieuwe, verbeterde 7nm-proces (N7P, DUV-gebaseerd). Het proces biedt 7% hogere prestaties of 10% minder energieverbruik in vergelijking met het oude N7-proces.
