Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 328.9 Hz

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 328.9 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) .

De frequentie van 328.9 Hz is relatief hoog en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering zouden dit dus niet mogen waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen. Er zijn echter rapporten die beweren dat sommige mensen toch flickering met 500 Hz en hoger kunnen waarnemen: opgelet dus.

Ter vergelijking: 51 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 17553 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 2500000) Hz waargenomen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde erg snelle responstijden in onze tests en zou zeer geschikt moeten zijn voor snelle games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 5 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (24.4 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Als je meer dan €1.000 rekent voor een smartphone, dan moet je ook kunnen leveren. Helaas doet de Motorola Edge+ dat op te veel gebieden niet. De camera biedt een hoge resolutie, maar de details zijn onvoldoende scherpgesteld en de hoofdlens presteert in het beste geval middelmatig bij weinig licht. De behuizing is stijlvol en modern, maar kan ingedrukt worden en is niet waterdicht.

Het opladen is een ander gebied waar de concurrenten een beter aanbod bieden, de gesprekskwaliteit had beter moeten zijn, en de luidsprekers behoren niet tot het beste van wat high-end smartphones te bieden hadden op het moment van redactie. Het display is niet zo helder en kleuraccuraat als bij andere smartphones in de prijsklasse van de Edge+ en het apparaat heeft de neiging om onder langdurige belasting te throttlen.

De Motorola Edge+ onderscheidt zich tot op zekere hoogte door zijn randloze display en stijlvolle achterkant, de locatiediensten werken geweldig zodra het locatieslot is verkregen en Motorola heeft alles uit de kast gehaald wat betreft draadloze communicatie, van 5G tot en met Wi-Fi 6 tot en met Bluetooth 5.1.

De Edge+ betekent de terugkeer van Motorola naar het rijk van de high-end smartphones. Helaas is het apparaat niet in staat om de hoge vraagprijs te rechtvaardigen.

Als u op zoek bent naar een smartphone met 3,5-mm koptelefoonaansluiting zult u blij zijn te horen dat Motorola de analoge audio-uitgang blijft ondersteunen. Een ander voordeel is de zuivere en schone weergave van Android met inbegrip van enigszins up-to-date beveiligingspatches.

De Motorola Edge+ is misschien niet de high-end smartphone met de beste prijs-prestatieverhouding, vooral gezien de meer betaalbare alternatieven zoals de OnePlus 8 Pro of de Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro. Hij slaagt er echter in om een zeer hoog prestatieniveau, een uniek design en een zeer goede levensduur van de batterij te bieden.
