Kort testrapport Xiaomi Mi 10 Smartphone: meer megapixels

Chinese high-end. Fabrikanten adverteren hun toestellen graag aan de hand van grote getallen, en Xiaomi is hier geen uitzondering op. Alleen al door een 108-MP-sensor te vernoemen, trekt de camera gegarandeerd de aandacht. Onze test moet uitwijzen of meer megapixels ook echt een beter beeld opleveren.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 362.3 Hz ≤ 99 % helderheid instelling

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 362.3 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) aan een helderheid van 99 % en lager. Boven deze helderheid zou er geen flickering / PWM mogen optreden.

De frequentie van 362.3 Hz is relatief hoog en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering zouden dit dus niet mogen waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen. Er zijn echter rapporten die beweren dat sommige mensen toch flickering met 500 Hz en hoger kunnen waarnemen: opgelet dus.

Ter vergelijking: 51 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 18037 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 2500000) Hz waargenomen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (24.6 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

We hebben gemengde gevoelens bij de Xiaomi Mi 10. Aan de ene kant biedt het toestel uitstekende prestaties bij dagelijks gebruik, voelt het geweldig aan in de hand en laat de bouwkwaliteit weinig te wensen over. Aan de andere kant vallen de prestaties van de 108-MP-camera ietwat tegen. Hier wordt opnieuw duidelijk hoe groot de impact is van goede software op de beeldkwaliteit. Andere fabrikanten kunnen veel meer uit hun camera's halen met aanzienlijk minder megapixels - dus dat hadden we ook graag van het Xiaomi-toestel willen zien.

De Xiaomi Mi 10 overtuigt met goede bouwkwaliteit en vlotte prestaties bij dagelijks gebruik. We hadden alleen meer verwacht van de camera.

Afgezien van de cameraprestaties hebben we slechts kleine punten van kritiek, zoals het ontbreken van een geheugenkaartlezer bijvoorbeeld. We kunnen eveneens leven zonder een 3,5 mm audio-aansluiting, en de meeste gebruikers zouden het moeten kunnen stellen met de matige batterijduur. Al bij al is de Xiaomi Mi 10 echter aan de dure kant, waardoor de druk van de concurrenten, waarvan sommige aanzienlijk sneller zijn, veel hoger uitvalt.
