Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 242.7 Hz

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 242.7 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) .

De frequentie van 242.7 Hz is redelijk laag en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering kunnen dit dus waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen (gebruikmakend van de vermelde helderheid en lager).

Ter vergelijking: 51 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 9693 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde erg snelle responstijden in onze tests en zou zeer geschikt moeten zijn voor snelle games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 5 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (24.3 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Het is bijna een traditie geworden voor Galaxy S-smartphones om uitstekende high-end toestellen te zijn die op alle vlakken de competitie niet kunnen bijbenen. Bijvoorbeeld is het web surfen langzamer, batterijduur is korter, opladen duurt langer, Wi-Fi prestaties zijn minder en andere smartphones bieden meer opslagruimte voor dezelfde prijs. Voor Europese gebruikers is het nog eens extra zuur aangezien hun Exynos S20 toestellen nog lagere prestaties bieden dan de Snapdragon variant en ook minder flexibel zijn met 5G ondersteuning.

Dat gezegd hebbende blijft de Samsung Galaxy S20 een goede high-end smartphone met een slanke, smalle behuizing die gebruikers met kleine handen zeer op prijs zullen stellen. Het toestel biedt ook een modern en bijna conservatief ontwerp evenals een laag gewicht.

De up-to-date software is fijn om te gebruiken. De software biedt een erg brede reeks ondersteunde LTE-frequenties evenals een zeer snel 4G of zelfs 5G modem. De camera maakt fantastische foto's, met name bij minder licht. Daarbovenop heeft de laatste patch veel problemen die ervaren werden door vroege kopers opgelost. Zijn flexibele drievoudige camera met nauwkeurige verstelbare hybride-optische zoom kan beschouwd worden als dertien in een dozijn in het high-end smartphone segment, maar dat weerhield ons er niet van om het een erg leuke functie te vinden. Het beeldscherm is net als altijd super en kan makkelijk zijn concurrenten overtreffen. Zowel de helderheid als de kleurechtheid is verbeterd ten opzichte van zijn voorloper.

We waren minder te spreken over de hoge temperaturen bij belasting en de hevige throttling van de CPU. Dat is erg jammer gezien het feit dat de batterijduur van de S20 significant is verbeterd.

De Samsung Galaxy S20 biedt verbeterde batterijduur, een extreem helder beeldscherm en goede camera's. Helaas heeft het toestel ook veel unieke eigenaardigheden.

Concluderend is de Samsung Galaxy S20 een smartphone met een zeer unieke set tekortkomingen en eigenaardigheden. De S20 zal daarom ook een lastige tijd tegemoet zien om te blijven concurreren met Huawei, Apple en OnePlus. Als je een flexibele camera waardeert en je op zoek bent naar een compacte smartphone is de Samsung Galaxy S20 zeker je aandacht waard.
