Kort testrapport OnePlus 8: zelfs in non-pro versie een fantastische smartphone

Plus 5G. Met de OnePlus 8 is er weer een goede, betaalbare 5G smartphone op de markt gekomen. Hoewel de dekking nog vrij beperkt is, zijn er veel goede redenen om deze smartphone aan te schaffen. In onze review gaan we in op wat die redenen zijn.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 373.1 Hz ≤ 99 % helderheid instelling

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 373.1 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) aan een helderheid van 99 % en lager. Boven deze helderheid zou er geen flickering / PWM mogen optreden.

De frequentie van 373.1 Hz is relatief hoog en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering zouden dit dus niet mogen waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen. Er zijn echter rapporten die beweren dat sommige mensen toch flickering met 500 Hz en hoger kunnen waarnemen: opgelet dus.

Ter vergelijking: 50 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 18115 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 2500000) Hz waargenomen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde erg snelle responstijden in onze tests en zou zeer geschikt moeten zijn voor snelle games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 1 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (24.7 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

In onze review is de OnePlus 8 een goed gemaakte smartphone geworden. Het feit dat hij ook 5G ondersteunt, wordt bijna ondergeschikt. De resultaten van de systeemprestaties en de camerafuncties zijn overtuigend. De gebruikerservaring is geheel soepel verlopen, de applicaties starten snel en er waren ook geen vertragingen bij het surfen op het web. Aangezien de topconfiguratie 12 GB RAM en 256 GB interne opslag implementeert, is het ontbreken van een microSD-kaartslot geen bijzonder opvallend probleem.

Met een royale geheugenconfiguratie, goede cameraprestaties en een zeer soepel systeem is de OnePlus 8 een geweldige smartphone. Zodra 5G dekking meer wijdverspreid is, zullen kopers ten volle kunnen profiteren van de sterke punten van de smartphone.

Te oordelen naar de kale metingen en benchmark resultaten behoort de OnePlus 8 ook tot de top van zijn klasse. OxygenOS bevat geen onnodige apps en de Wi-Fi snelheden zijn goed. Onze belangrijkste kritiek met betrekking tot het OLED display is de agressieve helderheidsvermindering, hoewel dit waarschijnlijk een veiligheidsmaatregel is die ontworpen is om het 90-Hz scherm te beschermen tegen hoge temperaturen. De camera verdient veel lof vanwege het vermogen om prachtige foto's te maken die er beter uitzien dan de resultaten van veel concurrenten.

Onze configuratie van de OnePlus 8 biedt dus veel goede hardware voor een redelijke prijs die ook zonder de toegevoegde 5G ondersteuning gerechtvaardigd zou zijn. Echter, aangezien deze laatste ook is inbegrepen, is de huidige prijs van de smartphone van rond de 800 dollar meer dan redelijk. Potentiële kopers met lagere eisen kunnen ongeveer €100 besparen door de 5G smartphone met 8 GB RAM/128 GB interne opslag aan te schaffen.
