Intel i3-10100Y

De Intel Core i3-10100Y is een efficiënte dual-core SoC voor tablets en passief gekoelde laptops op basis van de oude Amber Lake generatie uit 2018. Hij werd aangekondigd in Q1 2021 en is vergelijkbaar met de oude Core i5-8200Y. Het enige verschil is een iets hogere GPU-klok (+50 MHz).

De CPU bestaat uit twee processorkernen geklokt op 1,3 - 3,9 GHz. Dankzij Hyper Threading kan de processor tot vier threads tegelijk uitvoeren. De chips bevatten ook de Intel HD Graphics 615 GPU, een dual-channel geheugencontroller (DDR3L/LPDDR3) en een VP9 en H.265 video de- en encoder. 

Architectuur

Intel heeft in principe de vertrouwde microarchitectuur van de Skylake / Kaby Lake generatie gebruikt, dus de prestaties per-MHz zijn identiek.

Prestaties

De prestaties van de Y-serie zijn sterk afhankelijk van de koeloplossing van de laptop/tablet en de TDP-instellingen voor aanhoudende belasting. Daarom kunnen de verschillen tussen een Core i3-10100Y (i5-8200Y) en de Pentium Gold 6500Y (m3-8100Y) vrij klein zijn, als de thermiek zeer beperkt is. De hoge Turbo kloksnelheden in Amber Lake zouden echter moeten leiden tot een zeer goede single thread prestatie voor korte bursts (voor een 2018 CPU).

Graphics

De geïntegreerde Intel HD Graphics 615 GPU heeft 24 Execution Units (EU's) zoals de oude HD Graphics 515 en draait met kloksnelheden tussen 300 en 1000 MHz in combinatie met deze processor. De prestaties zijn sterk afhankelijk van de TDP-limiet en de geheugenconfiguratie; met snel LPDDR3-1866 RAM in dual-channel modus zou de GPU soms moeten kunnen concurreren met de HD Graphics 520, maar kan ook veel trager zijn in andere scenario's. Moderne games uit 2016 zullen, als het al lukt, alleen soepel draaien op de laagste instellingen.

In tegenstelling tot Skylake ondersteunen Kaby Lake en Amber Lake nu ook hardware decodering voor H.265/HEVC Main10 met een 10-bit kleurdiepte, evenals Google's VP9 codec.

Energieverbruik

De chip is vervaardigd in het 14 nm+ proces met FinFET transistoren. Het typische TDP voor de Amber Lake Y-serie wordt gespecificeerd op 5 Watt (vorige generaties waren 4,5 Watt), en kan in beide richtingen worden aangepast, afhankelijk van het gebruiksscenario.
