AMD A4-4300M
De AMD A4-4300M is een mobile dual-core processor gebaseerd op de Trinity architectuur. Officieel geïntroduceerd in 2012, is het de rechtstreeks opvolger van de Llano A-serie van APU's (Accelerated Processing Unit). De processing unit is gefabriceerd in 32nm SOI en integreert een 2.5 GHz CPU (tot en met 3.0 GHz met Turbo Core) met een Radeon HD 7420G GPU, naast een dual-channel geheugen-controller, video de- en encoders en een northbridge. De CPU cores zijn gebaseerd op een herwerkte Bulldozer architectuur, Piledriver genaamd. Hoewel de CPU geadverteerd wordt als een dual-core processor, heeft de A6-4400M slechts één module met twee integer-cores en één floating-point core. Bijgevolg is de CPU geen echte dual-core processor. Vergeleken met de vorige Bulldozer cores, is AMD er in geslaagd om de IPC performance (instructions per clock) van de Trinity cores te verbeteren en hogere kloksnelheden toe te laten. De multithreaded performance is echter maar weinig verbeterd ten opzichte van zijn Llano-voorgangers. De nieuwe Turbo Core 3.0 technologie tilt de single-threaded performance naar een hoger niveau, maar kan evenwil niet tippen aan Intel's Turbo Boost equivalent. Niettemin heeft AMD een ook een aantal andere functionaliteiten geïntegreerd, waaronder AVX-extensies (inclusief FMA) en ondersteuning voor AES-encryptie. Wat globale rekenkracht betreft, presteert de A4-4300M gelijkaardig aan de Llano-gebaseerde A4-3310MX. Single-threaded werklasten halen vooral voordeel uit de nieuwe architectuur en de geüpdatete Turbo Core-functionaliteit. Vergeleken met de Pentium-serie van Intel, biedt de A4-4300M minder performance in de meeste gevallen. Niettemin zijn de prestaties van de AMD CPU toereikend voor Office en surfen op het web, hoewel meer veeleisende applicaties de processor tot zijn limiet zullen brengen. De geïntegreerde DirectX 11-compatibele Radeon HD 7420G biedt vermoedelijk slechts 192 shader cores van de Trinity chip (7660G: 384) en zal, dankzij Turbo Core, ergens tussen de 470 en 640 MHz opereren, afhankelijk van de hoeveel de applicatie vereist. Gemiddeld liggen de prestaties van de HD 7420G GPU tussen de Llano-gebaseerde Radeon HD 6520G en de HD Graphics 4000 in Intel's Ivy Bridge. Het stroomverbruik van de A4-4300M APU is afgestemd op een TDP van 35 Watt en is daarom vergelijkbaar met dual-core Ivy Bridge processors. Bijgevolg is de A4-4300M het best geschikt voor notebooks van het 14 inch-formaat of groter.
