AMD A8-4555M
De AMD A8-4555M is een mobile ultra-low-voltage (ULV) quad-core processor gebaseerd op de Trinity architectuur. Officieel geïntroduceerd in het 4e kwartaal van 2012, is hij een rechtstreekse opvolger van de Llano A-serie van APU's (Accelerated Processing Unit). De processing unit is gefabriceerd in 32nm SOI en integreert een 1.6 GHz CPU (maximaal 2.4 GHz met Turbo Core) met een relatief snelle Radeon HD 7600G GPU naast een dual-channel geheugen-controller, video de- en encoders en een northbridge. De CPU cores zijn gebaseerd op een herwerkte Bulldozer architectuur, Piledriver genaamd. Hoewel de CPU geadverteerd wordt als een quad-core processor, heeft de A8-4555M slechts twee modules met in totaal vier integer-cores en twee floating-point cores. Bijgevolg is de CPU geen echte quad-core processor. Vergeleken met de vorige Bulldozer cores, is AMD er in geslaagd om de IPC performance (instructions per clock) van de Trinity cores te verbeteren en hogere kloksnelheden toe te laten. De multithreaded performance is echter maar weinig verbeterd ten opzichte van zijn Llano-voorgangers. De nieuwe Turbo Core 3.0 technologie tilt de single-threaded performance naar een hoger niveau, maar kan evenwil niet tippen aan Intel's Turbo Boost equivalent. Niettemin heeft AMD een ook een aantal andere functionaliteiten geïntegreerd, waaronder AVX-extensies (inclusief FMA) en ondersteuning voor AES-encryptie. Wat globale rekenkracht betreft, presteert de A8-4555M ergens tussen de ULV Pentium en Core i3-serie van Intel. Door de lagere kloksnelheid is de A8-4555M zo'n 15 - 20 % trager dan de A10-4655M (25W TDP). Toch zijn de prestaties van de AMD CPU toereikend voor dagelijkse taken als Office, surfen op het web, en zelfs wat video-editing of gaming. De APU integreert een DirectX 11-compatibele GPU genaamd Radeon HD 7600G. Het stroomverbruik van de A8-4555M APU is afgestemd op een TDP van 19W, vergelijkbaar met dat van Intel's ULV-processors. Bijgevolg is de A8-4555M geschikt voor dunne en lichte notebooks.
