Razer Blade 15 Advanced Model 11e Gen Intel (2021) Review: Kleine veranderingen, grote CPU winst

Ook al was de Blade 15 al opgefrist eerder dit jaar met 10th gen Intel Coffee Lake-H CPU's en een 360 Hz scherm, Razer was snel om de serie nog een keer te updaten zodra Intel haar 11th gen Tiger Lake-H processor SKU's beschikbaar stelde. Het eindresultaat is een visueel vergelijkbaar model, maar met verschillende interne updates die liefhebbers en gamers zullen waarderen.

We raden aan om onze bestaande review van de vroege 2021 en 2020 Blade 15 modellen aangezien deze 11e gen versie hetzelfde 360 Hz scherm, toetsenbord en skelet deelt als zijn directe voorgangers. Deze pagina zal zich richten op de prestatieverschillen die gebruikers kunnen verwachten tussen de 10e en 11e generatie Intel Blade 15 opties.

Ons model uit midden 2021 is uitgerust met hetzelfde TL156VDXP02-0 IPS-paneel als het model uit begin 2021. De meeste kenmerken zijn hetzelfde, maar met één interessant verschil: de grijs-tot-grijs reactietijden zijn opmerkelijk sneller op dit nieuwere model, zelfs na dubbele controle. We weten niet zeker of dit een opzettelijke verandering was van de fabrikant of dat er een meetfout was op ons vroege 2021 10e gen model, maar we waarderen de snelle reactietijden in ieder geval.

G-Sync wordt niet ondersteund op het interne beeldscherm.

Het beeldscherm is in de fabriek gekalibreerd, maar het lijkt niet perfect te zijn. Onze onafhankelijke X-Rite colorimeter metingen tonen gemiddelde grijswaarden en kleur deltaE waarden van respectievelijk 3,5 en 2,17, wat suggereert dat er ruimte is voor verbetering. We kunnen de deltaE-waarden terugbrengen tot slechts 1,1 en 1,05 nadat we het beeldscherm zelf hebben gekalibreerd.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde prima responstijden in onze tests maar is misschien wat te traag voor competitieve games.

Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (24 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Het scherm vertoonde erg snelle responstijden in onze tests en zou zeer geschikt moeten zijn voor snelle games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 636 (maximum) ms. » 4 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (38.1 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.

Ter vergelijking: 51 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 13146 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 2500000) Hz waargenomen.

Prestaties

 

Processor

De prestaties van de CPU liggen beduidend hoger dan die van de Core i7-10875H in de 10e generatie Blade 15 met maar liefst 20 procent en 80 procent in respectievelijk single-threaded en multi-threaded benchmarks. De processor in de 10e generatie Blade 15 presteerde toch al ondermaats en het is dus goed om te zien dat de 11e generatie Blade 15 weer op het goede spoor zit wat betreft CPU-prestaties. De scores liggen binnen eencijferige procentpunten van de gemiddelde Core i7-11800H laptop in onze database, terwijl de i7-10875H in de oudere Blade 15 een achterstand van maar liefst 20 procent zou hebben.

Upgraden naar de Core i9-11900H SKU zou de prestaties waarschijnlijk met slechts een paar procentpunten opkrikken, als onze Asus ROG Zephyrus S17 GX703HSD een indicatie is.

De prestatieduurzaamheid is uitstekend, zonder fluctuaties in scores of kloksnelheden in de loop van de tijd, zoals blijkt uit onze CineBench R15 xT loop grafiek hieronder. Alle benchmarks zijn uitgevoerd met het systeem ingesteld op 'Boost' en 'High' via Razer Synapse.

DPC latentie

LatencyMon laat geen grote DPC latency problemen zien tijdens het browsen op het web of video streaming op 4K. Zodra de CPU echter zwaar belast wordt, piekt de latency tot wel 4392 μs. We hebben dit twee keer getest met Prime95 en de resultaten zijn herhaalbaar.

Opslagapparaten

Een belangrijke onderscheidende factor die de 11e generatie Blade 15 onderscheidt van alle voorgaande modellen is de ondersteuning voor snelle PCIe 4 NVMe SSD's. Inderdaad, sequentiële lees- en schrijfsnelheden benaderen hier respectievelijk 6800+ MB/s en 4800 MB/s, vergeleken met "slechts" 3200 MB/s en 3000 MB/s op de 10th gen Blade 15 met zijn Samsung PM981a.

Interessant is dat de PCIe 4 SSD hier afkomstig is van SSSTC in plaats van Samsung of Lite-On. Bijna alle andere Blade laptops worden geleverd met Samsung en Lite-On SSD's en dit was dus onverwacht om te zien op onze test unit. De Samsung PM9A1 PCIe 4 NVMe SSD lijkt iets sneller te zijn dan onze SSSTC oplossing

GPU prestatie

3DMark scores zijn 9 tot 14 procent hoger dan op de 10e generatie Intel Blade 15 met exact dezelfde Nvidia GPU (zij het met een lagere TGP). Gebruikers in de markt voor een Blade 15 kunnen dus dit nieuwste 11e generatie model overwegen boven het 10e generatie model voor de kleine grafische boost. Grotere laptops met dezelfde RTX 3080 zoals de MSI GE76 11UH kunnen zelfs sneller draaien dan onze Razer omdat ze in staat zijn tot hogere TGP-plafonds.

Gebruikers zullen de grootste voordelen zien bij het draaien van niet veeleisende games bij lagere resoluties of instellingen waar de prestaties de neiging hebben CPU-gebonden te zijn, zoals in DOTA 2 of X-Plane.
