HP Omen 15 laptop Review: Sterke AMD processor laat Intel trillen

HP's Omen 15 heeft een zeer brede hardwareportfolio. Er zijn niet alleen verschillende Intel-modellen, maar ook verschillende AMD-varianten. Als grafische kaart wordt een mid-range of high-end chip van Nvidia's Turing generatie gebruikt (GeForce GTX 1650 Ti tot RTX 2070). Een van de beste prijs-kwaliteitsverhoudingen wordt momenteel aangeboden door de Omen 15-en0375ng getest door ons, voor ongeveer 1.260 euro (~$1530, dieeenRyzen 7 4800Hen eenGeForce RTX 2060, zoalsvermeld aan het begin). De gegenereerde foto's worden weergegeven op een mat IPS-paneel met 1.920 x 1.080 pixels. Daarnaast zijn er 2x 8 GB DDR4-3.200 RAM in dual-channel modus en een 512 GB NVMe SSD in het ruimtebesparende M.2 formaat. Het pakket wordt afgerond door Windows 10 Home 64 bit als besturingssysteem

Het chassis is in principe hetzelfde als dat van de Omen 15-ek0456ng die we een paar maanden geleden hebben getest, vandaar dat we het chassis, de apparatuur en de invoerapparatuur niet opnieuw analyseren. De modellen zijn echter niet volledig identiek. Zo heeft de AMD-versie een witte in plaats van een rode labeling of verlichting van het toetsenbord. Naast de reactietijd is het contrast ook veel slechter. In plaats van meer dan 1400:1 heeft het AMD-model slechts een verhouding van 900:1. Ook in de andere disciplines loopt het Intel-model meestal voorop - of het nu gaat om de kleurnauwkeurigheid, de zwartwaarde of de helderheid. De Omen 15-en0375ng is door zijn geringe helderheid (ca. 275 cd/m²) nauwelijks geschikt voor buitengebruik

De kleine kleurruimte is echter het grootste nadeel in onze ogen: 58% sRGB en 40% AdobeRGB resulteren in nogal bleke en ongedifferentieerde foto's. De goede kijkhoekstabiliteit kan deze tekortkoming slechts tot op zekere hoogte compenseren. Al met al doet de beeldkwaliteit geen recht aan de prijs van de notebook. Of het nu gaat om een budgetproduct of een luxe machine: We verwachten een hoogwaardig paneel met minstens 300 cd/m² helderheid, minstens 1000:1 contrast en minstens 80% sRGB dekking voor gaming laptops - en 120 Hz vanaf 1.000 euro (~$1214)

HP is echter niet de enige die slecht presteert. Met uitzondering van de Schenker Core 15 en Aorus 5 KB laten ook de displays van de competitie te wensen over. Aandacht: Onder een helderheid van 100% flikkert het display met 200 Hz, wat problemen kan opleveren voor gevoelige mensen

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde prima responstijden in onze tests maar is misschien wat te traag voor competitieve games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 29 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (24 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Het scherm vertoonde trage responstijden in onze tests en is misschien te traag voor games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 636 (maximum) ms. » 24 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (38.1 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 200 Hz ≤ 99 % helderheid instelling

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 200 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) aan een helderheid van 99 % en lager. Boven deze helderheid zou er geen flickering / PWM mogen optreden.

De frequentie van 200 Hz is redelijk laag en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering kunnen dit dus waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen (gebruikmakend van de vermelde helderheid en lager).

Ter vergelijking: 52 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 14793 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 2500000) Hz waargenomen.

Testcondities

Tuning-ventilatoren kunnen stoom afblazen in het voorgeïnstalleerde Commandocentrum. Naast systeembewaking biedt de tool ook een netwerkbooster en prestatiecontrole. Deze laatste omvat drie profielen die de prestaties en de temperaturen of het volume beïnvloeden. Onze tests zijn altijd uitgevoerd met de standaardmodus, die geschikt moet zijn voor alle taaktypen en buiten de doos actief is. De ventilatoren draaiden altijd in de automatische modus (zie screenshot #3)

Vermogen

Hoewel het een budgettair apparaat in termen van prijs is, behoort de Omen 15-en0375ng zeker tot het high-end segment. Dit is vooral te danken aan de sterke acht-kernprocessor, die tot nu toe zelden voordelen heeft ten opzichte van een snelle vier- of zes-core in spellen, maar zijn spieren laat zien in gespecialiseerde toepassingen en over het algemeen meer toekomstvastheid heeft

Verwerker

De benchmarks bewijzen op indrukwekkende wijze dat AMD momenteel de toon zet in de CPU-sector en Intel heeft ingehaald. Dankzij de vele kernen sprint de Ryzen 7 4800H, die via SMT tot 16 threads tegelijk kan verwerken, ongeveer 50% voorbij de Core i7-10750H, die zeer populair is onder gaming laptops, in multi-core toepassingen zoals Cinebench R15. De voorsprong op de Core i5-10300H, bijvoorbeeld in de Legion 5 15IMH05H, ligt zelfs rond de 100%

De temperatuurontwikkeling van het chassis varieert sterk. Terwijl de bodem van de kofferop sommige plaatsen onder volle belasting tot meer dan 50 °C (122 °F) opwarmt, bereikt de bovenkant slechts een maximum van 42 °C (107,6 °F) - eengematigdtempo. Onder de kap warmt vooral de processor op. Na 60 minuten van stresstesten met de Furmark en Prime95 gereedschappen heeft de Ryzen 7 4800H zichzelf comfortabel gemaakt bij ongeveer 86 °C (186,8 °F).
