Kort testrapport Aorus 5 KB laptop: Gigabyte bouwt met de RTX 2060 voort op Clevo barebone.

Met potentieel voor upgrades. Met de Aorus 5 KB is Gigabyte gegaan voor een barebone-behuizing van Clevo. Dit heeft enkele voordelen zoals een vervangbare batterij en zeer goede onderhoudsopties. In dit korte testrapport zullen we verduidelijken hoe goed dit uiteindelijk werkt met de geïnstalleerde hardware en de prestaties die kunnen worden verwacht.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde prima responstijden in onze tests maar is misschien wat te traag voor competitieve games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 14 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (24.4 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Het scherm vertoonde prima responstijden in onze tests maar is misschien wat te traag voor competitieve games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 636 (maximum) ms. » 12 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (38.7 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM niet waargenomen

Ter vergelijking: 51 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 17539 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 2500000) Hz waargenomen.

Met de Aorus 5 KB levert Gigabyte een relatief goedkope gaming-laptop af die uitblinkt door zijn uitgebreide onderhoudsopties. Vooral de uitbreidingsmogelijkheden voor de opslagapparaten zijn talrijk, maar ook toegang tot het RAM en ventilatoren is mogelijk. De prestaties zijn op het verwachte niveau voor de hardware en kunnen ook onder belasting goed worden gehandhaafd. Bovendien is er de mogelijkheid om de prestaties en het gedrag van de ventilator via de software te beïnvloeden.

De Aorus 5 KB biedt veel onderhoudsopties en kan zijn prestaties ook onder belasting volhouden.

Door een Clevo-barebone te gebruiken, heeft Aorus geen eigen accenten op de behuizing gelegd. Bovendien is de achtergrondverlichting van het toetsenbord beperkt tot vooraf gedefinieerde kleuren. Het vakmanschap, het 144 Hz-paneel en de poortselectie zijn echter zeer solide en zouden de meeste gebruikers tevreden moeten stellen.
