Ryzen 7 neemt de leiding. De door ons geteste configuratie kost minder dan 1500 euro en is uitgerust met een krachtige Ryzen 7 4800H, een Nvidia RTX 2060, een goed IPS-scherm en een snelle SSD. Waar zit het addertje dan? Nergens! Al doet de XMG Core 15 ook niet alles goed. Vooral de krachtige Ryzen maakt een goede indruk. Alle sterke en zwakke punten van de Schenker in de Tongfang-behuizing worden beschreven in ons testrapport.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM niet waargenomen

Ter vergelijking: 51 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 17581 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 2500000) Hz waargenomen.

Momenteel is een hardware-update een erg logische keuze. De nieuwe Zen 2-processors van AMD hebben de laptopprestaties naar nieuwe hoogtes getild, en een RTX 2060 in plaats van de GTX 1660 Ti als metgezel voor de Ryzen Z is een consequente keuze. De prestatieverbetering van de 1660 Ti valt echter lager uit dan verwacht. Aan de andere kant zijn de CPU-prestaties fenomenaal en kunnen ook de WLAN en het beeldscherm overtuigen.

Maar wie denkt dat het relatief compacte formaat en lage gewicht van de XMG de perfecte mobiele gaming-machine maken, zal teleurgesteld worden door de enorme beperking van de grafische prestaties in batterijmodus. Bovendien verbruikt de Schenker tijdens inactiviteit meer stroom dan nodig zou moeten zijn met Optimus, en wordt hij ook behoorlijk heet onder hoge belasting.

Hoewel de Schenker XMG Core 15 krachtige hardware biedt in een vrij slanke behuizing voor een lage prijs van minder dan €1500, verpest hij zijn mobiliteitspotentieel met een sterke beperking in de batterijmodus. Eenmaal aangesloten aan netstroom weten vooral de CPU-prestaties te overtuigen; de RTX 2060 is bij de meeste concurrenten echter een beetje sneller.
