Recensie van de Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 14Q8Y11: Een verdere inzet op Windows ARM met de Snapdragon X2E

Snel en soepel met Snapdragon.

Ondanks alle kritiek op de Snapdragon X1E-serie komt Qualcomm dit jaar terug met de Snapdragon X2E. De prestaties zijn buitengewoon snel en overtreffen in veel opzichten zelfs de Intel Panther Lake Core X9-serie.

Oordeel — De Snapdragon X1E ver achter zich latend

De verwachtingen waren hooggespannen voor de Snapdragon X1E toen deze vorig jaar op de markt kwam, maar de eerste benchmarks en indrukken bleven achter bij wat de chip had moeten zijn in vergelijking met populaire opties van Intel en AMD. Voor 2026 is de nieuwe Snapdragon X2E zo’n enorme verbetering ten opzichte van zijn voorganger dat hij beter presteert dan of zelfs kan wedijveren met de nieuwste concurrerende Panther Lake-X-opties, waaronder de Core Ultra X7 386H in klassieke multithreaded-toepassingen. Een groot deel van die prestaties wordt ook behouden via x64-emulatie, wat betekent dat de prestatievermindering bij het uitvoeren van niet-native ARM-apps bij de Snapdragon X2E-serie wordt beperkt.

De bovengenoemde voordelen zouden weinig betekenen als het Snapdragon-systeem warmer zou worden of meer lawaai zou maken om zijn hogere prestatiedoelstellingen te halen, maar dat lijkt niet het geval te zijn. In plaats daarvan zou het Lenovo ARM-systeem zowel langer als aanzienlijk koeler werken in vergelijking met andere x64-subnotebooks, zoals de Yoga Slim 7a 14 of de nieuwe Asus ExpertBook Ultra. De belangrijkste voordelen van ARM blijven in dit opzicht behouden met de Snapdragon X2E.

De Snapdragon-serie heeft nog een lange weg te gaan, ondanks de aanzienlijke vooruitgang ten opzichte van vorig jaar. Sommige nichetoepassingen werken nog steeds helemaal niet; in ons geval gaat het onder meer om bepaalde games (F1 24) en software (X-Rite, MetraWin, enz.). Met andere woorden: de prestaties en de batterijduur zijn indrukwekkend bij het gebruik van software die goed is geoptimaliseerd voor Windows ARM, maar verder is het wat betreft betrouwbaarheid een wildwest. Het maakt niet uit hoe snel of dun de Yoga Slim 7 14 van 2000 dollar ook is, als hij niet werkt met de apps die u nodig hebt voor uw dagelijkse werkzaamheden. De geïntegreerde GPU is weliswaar nog steeds uitstekend, maar blijft ook enigszins achter bij de alom geprezen Arc B390. De Yoga Slim 7 14 ARM kan daarom een klein risico vormen, maar het loont de moeite als u er zeker van bent dat Windows en Snapdragon compatibel zijn met uw gebruiksscenario’s.

Kopers die op veilig willen spelen, kunnen de Intel- of AMD-versies van de Yoga Slim 7 14 overwegen, die er visueel identiek uitzien maar geen risico op incompatibiliteit met x64-software met zich meebrengen.

- x64-emulatie werkt nog steeds wisselvallig
- RAM kan niet worden uitgebreid

Prijs en beschikbaarheid

Lenovo levert de Yoga Slim 7 14Q8Y11 momenteel in de configuratie die in deze recensie wordt besproken voor 2100 dollar.

De Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 14Q8Y11 is de op ARM gebaseerde variant van de x64 Yoga Slim 7 14. Het apparaat is uitgerust met de nieuwe Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Elite X2E-88-100-processor, die de Snapdragon X1E-modellen van vorig jaar opvolgt. Het model is verder visueel identiek aan de Yoga Slim 7a 14 en daarom gelden veel van onze eerdere opmerkingen gelden nog steeds voor de Yoga Slim 7 14Q8Y11.

Ons testexemplaar is een topconfiguratie, uitgerust met de Snapdragon X2 Elite X2E-88-100 en een 1200p60 OLED-touchscreen, voor ongeveer 2100 dollar. Lagere uitvoeringen beginnen met de Snapdragon X2 Plus X2P-42-100, terwijl de duurdere varianten beschikken over een OLED-touchscreen met een hogere resolutie van 1800p120.

Het Qualcomm-model concurreert met andere subnotebooks voor de prosumer-markt, zoals de Dell XPS 14 Asus ZenBook A14, of de HP X OmniBook-serie.

Duurzaamheid

De behuizing bestaat voor maximaal 60 procent uit gerecyclede aluminiumlegering voor de basisplaat van het toetsenbord en de onderste D-afdekking, en voor maximaal 90 procent uit gerecyclede PCC-kunststof voor de accu, de toetsen van het toetsenbord en de behuizing van de adapter. De verpakking zelf is volledig recyclebaar en bevat geen kunststof.

Accessoires en garantie

De verpakking bevat geen extra’s, behalve de gebruikelijke netadapter en de documentatie. Bij aankoop in de VS geldt de standaard beperkte fabrieksgarantie van één jaar.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde erg snelle responstijden in onze tests en zou zeer geschikt moeten zijn voor snelle games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.1 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 11 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (19.8 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Het scherm vertoonde erg snelle responstijden in onze tests en zou zeer geschikt moeten zijn voor snelle games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.165 (minimum) tot 636 (maximum) ms. » 8 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (31 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.

De achtergrondverlichting van het scherm flikkert op 482.1 Hz (in het slechtste geval, bijvoorbeeld bij gebruik van PWM) aan een helderheid van 100 % en lager. Boven deze helderheid zou er geen flickering / PWM mogen optreden.

De frequentie van 482.1 Hz is relatief hoog en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering zouden dit dus niet mogen waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen. Er zijn echter rapporten die beweren dat sommige mensen toch flickering met 500 Hz en hoger kunnen waarnemen: opgelet dus.

Ter vergelijking: 52 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 7750 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 343500) Hz waargenomen.

Ondanks de helderheid van OLED had de maximale helderheid in de SDR-modus hoger mogen zijn om de glans van het scherm te compenseren. Houd rekening met veel schittering wanneer u het systeem buitenshuis gebruikt.

Prestaties

Testomstandigheden

Voordat wij de onderstaande benchmarks uitvoerden, hebben wij Windows in de prestatiemodus ingesteld.

Processor

Pure multithread-prestaties met onze Snapdragon X2 Elite X2E-88-100 is aanzienlijk verbeterd ten opzichte van de vorige generatie Snapdragon X Elite X1E-80 met ongeveer 50 tot 60 procent. De Qualcomm-chip presteert zelfs beter dan de nieuwe Panther Lake Core Ultra X9 388H bij het uitvoeren van native ARM-toepassingen, terwijl hij zich kan meten met de Intel-chip bij het uitvoeren van x64-toepassingen via emulatie.

De prestaties kunnen na verloop van tijd met ongeveer 19 procent afnemen bij zware belasting, zoals blijkt uit de onderstaande resultaten van onze CineBench R15 xT-looptest, maar de afname verloopt langzaam en is voor de doelgroep waarschijnlijk niet van belang.

Het ventilatorgedrag komt overeen met wat wij bij de Yoga Slim 7a 14 hebben waargenomen, ondanks de verschillende processors en de over het algemeen lagere kerntemperaturen van de Qualcomm-processor. Ons testexemplaar bleef stil of onhoorbaar tijdens het surfen of het streamen van video’s, maar de ventilatoren gingen vrij snel en merkbaar sneller draaien bij zwaardere belasting, zoals bij het spelen van games.

De kerntemperatuur stabiliseert zich niettemin op een relatief lage 73 °C, in vergelijking met 80 °C of 90 °C bij veel subnotebooks van Intel of AMD, waaronder de recente Asus ExpertBook Ultra. Deze waarnemingen komen overeen met onze hierboven vermelde gemiddelde oppervlaktetemperaturen.

Stroomverbruik

Het stroomverbruik bij het uitvoeren van GPU-intensieve taken, zoals games, is lager dan bij de op AMD gebaseerde Yoga Slim 7a 14, terwijl het apparaat tegelijkertijd aanzienlijk sneller is, wat resulteert in een veel betere prestatie per watt. Aan de andere kant zou het stroomverbruik hoger zijn dan bij AMD bij het uitvoeren van CPU-intensieve taken zoals CineBench, maar de CPU-prestaties zijn bij Qualcomm ook hoger, wat dit compenseert. Het gemiddelde stroomverbruik ligt niettemin hoger dan bij modellen met Snapdragon X1-SoC’s van de vorige generatie, zoals de Asus ZenBook A14 of de HP Omnibook 5 14, met name onder belasting.
