Het verkoopargument voor de € 160 smartphone is het IPS-paneel dat niet onderdoet voor zelfs smartphones in het high-end segment. In ons testrapport overtuigt het nieuwste model in de Redmi-serie niet alleen met zijn beeldscherm.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 2358 Hz ≤ 19 % helderheid instelling

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 2358 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) aan een helderheid van 19 % en lager. Boven deze helderheid zou er geen flickering / PWM mogen optreden.

De frequentie van 2358 Hz is redelijk hoog en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering zouden dit dus niet mogen waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen.

Ter vergelijking: 53 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 8668 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde relatief trage responstijden in onze tests en is misschien te traag voor games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 54 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd vergelijkbaar is met het gemiddelde (25.6 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Met de Redmi Note 6 Pro biedt de Chinese fabrikant een interessante optie aan in de prijsklasse beneden de € 200. Zelfs al zijn de verschillen met de voorganger klein, Xiaomi heeft de juiste wijzigingen aangepakt. De blauwe waas die we bekritiseerden in de voorganger komt niet meer voor in de nieuwste Redmi telg, sterker nog, het IPS-paneel is het grote verkoopargument van deze betaalbare middenklasse smartphone. Dankzij de fantastische kleurweergave en goede helderheid, is het LCD beeldscherm van de Redmi Note 6 Pro een plezier om naar te kijken. Daarnaast kunnen ook de camera's en de erg goede batterijduur overtuigen.

We hopen dat de update naar de nieuwste MiUI-versie betere prestaties zullen opleveren, want op dit moment lukt het de Snapdragon 636 niet om de interface altijd 100% vloeiend weer te geven. Verdere kleine minpunten zijn PWM, de mono luidspreker die typisch is voor deze prijsklasse en het ontbreken van een USB Type-C poort die in 2018 toch echt standaard zou moeten zijn.

De Redmi Note 6 Pro is zonder twijfel een smartphone die aan te raden is. Echter wanneer je ook het bestaande, ruime aanbod van erg goede middenklasse modellen van dezelfde fabrikant in ogenschouw neemt, zoals de Mi A2 en de Mi A2 Lite, kun je je afvragen het nodig was om nog een smartphone toe te voegen. De prijsverschillen tussen de Mi-modellen en de Redmi 6 Note Pro zijn erg klein en ook de verschillen in specificaties zijn niet groot.

De snelheid waarmee de kwaliteit van betaalbare smartphones verhoogd neemt de laatste maanden erg toe. Potentiële gebruikers zullen in geen geval een miskoop doen met de Redmi Note 6 Pro. 

Als je de Redmi Note 6 Pro importeert in de Chinese versie kun je deze aanschaffen voor een prijs van ongeveer € 40 tot € 50 lager. Een import uit China brengt echter wel risico's en beperkingen met zich mee die niet voor iedereen het waard zijn. We denken dan ook dat voor de meeste gebruikers de aanschaf van een EU versie beter is.
