Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 2358 Hz ≤ 20 % helderheid instelling

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 2358 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) aan een helderheid van 20 % en lager. Boven deze helderheid zou er geen flickering / PWM mogen optreden.

De frequentie van 2358 Hz is redelijk hoog en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering zouden dit dus niet mogen waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen.

Ter vergelijking: 52 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 8758 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde relatief trage responstijden in onze tests en is misschien te traag voor games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 46 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd vergelijkbaar is met het gemiddelde (25.6 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

De Redmi Note 5 is dé definitie van Xiaomi's ethos wat betreft betaalbare maar krachtige apparaten en laat zien waarom velen zitten te wachten op een lancering op de Europese markt. De Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is een betaalbare smartphone met ruim voldoende rekenkracht, lange looptijden, snelle 802.11 ac Wi-Fi en een helder, contrastrijk beeldscherm voor nog geen €240. De Note 5 heeft daarnaast een goede luidspreker, de gesprekskwaliteit is acceptabel en Quick Charge ondersteuning komt goed van pas. Dankzij de moderne SoC biedt de Note 5 een relatief snelle LTE verbinding en Bluetooth 5.0 maakt het apparaat een stukje toekomstbestendiger.

Het apparaat heeft echter ook een aantal zwakke kanten. De kleurnauwkeurigheid en blauwe tint van het beeldscherm stellen teleur en ook het energieverbruik laat veel ruimte over voor verbetering. Daarnaast is MIUI relatief agressief tegen bepaalde apps, waardoor achtergrondprocessen in de knel komen te zitten. De batterijlevensduur profiteert daar overigens wel van. De kwaliteit van de camera laat zien dat de Note 5 toch echt een middenklasse model is, hoewel de foto's over het algemeen niet slecht zijn. De oppervlaktetemperaturen geven ook geen reden tot klagen.

De Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 heeft een geweldige prijs/kwaliteit verhouding. Het apparaat biedt uitstekende prestaties voor een lage prijs en heeft enkele hoogtepunten zoals het heldere beeldscherm.

De Note 5 biedt uitstekende prestaties voor deze prijsklasse en verslaat soms zelfs duurdere concurrenten. De Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 verdient ondanks enkele kleine tekortkomingen een aanbeveling.
