De MSI GF65 is een van de minst dure 15,6-inch gaming laptop laptops die je kunt kopen met GeForce RTX 3060 graphics. Onze review configuratie wordt geleverd met de 10e gen Core i7-10750H, eerder genoemde RTX 30 GPU, 32 GB RAM, en 1 TB Samsung SSD voor ongeveer $1650 USD van CUKUSA. Echter, minder RAM, opslag en Core i5 opties zijn beschikbaar voor veel lagere prijzen vanaf 999 dollar.

Uiterlijk is de GF65 10UE voorzien van hetzelfde chassisontwerp als de 2020 GF65 9SD en dus zijn veel van onze bestaande opmerkingen nog steeds van toepassing. We raden aan om onze review van de 2020 versie te bekijken om meer te weten te komen over de fysieke eigenschappen van de laptop.

De MSI GF serie concurreert met andere budget gaming laptops zoals de Lenovo Legion 5, Dell G5, Acer Nitro 5, of de Asus TUF serie.

Zaak

Oppervlakken voelen dun aan en trekken sneller krom in vergelijking met MSI's duurdere modellen uit de GE of GT series. De GF65 voelt daardoor niet zo luxe aan, wat wel te verwachten is van een instapmodel gaming laptop. De concurrerende Asus TUF modellen, die iets zwaarder zijn, voelen steviger aan.

Connectiviteit

De poortopties blijven identiek op één opmerkelijke verandering na: de HDMI 1.4-poort op de GF65 9SD van vorig jaar is bijgewerkt naar HDMI 2.0 voor volledige ondersteuning van 4K60 FPS externe monitoren. De USB-C-poorten zijn echter nog steeds niet compatibel met externe monitoren.

Onderhoud

Voor onderhoud is alleen een Philips schroevendraaier nodig, zodat de upgrade relatief eenvoudig is. Eigenaars moeten voorzichtig zijn bij het verwijderen van het bodempaneel, aangezien de audio-aansluiting langs de rand vast kan komen te zitten.

Accessoires en garantie

Er zijn geen extra's in de doos buiten de gebruikelijke AC adapter en papierwerk. De standaard beperkte garantie van één jaar is van toepassing, terwijl alle componenten die door CUKUSA zijn geïnstalleerd, zoals RAM of opslag, een dekking van drie jaar hebben.

Weergave

De GF65 10UE gebruikt een ander AU Optronics paneel dan de oudere GF65 9SD (AUO B156HAN08.4 vs. AUO B156HAN13.0) met als belangrijkste verschil de verversingssnelheid (144 Hz vs. 120 Hz). Voor de rest zijn de panelen vrijwel identiek, inclusief hun gemiddelde zwart-wit responstijden en benedengemiddelde gamut. Het contrast is vrij hoog met meer dan 1000:1, maar de beperkte kleurweergave doet afbreuk aan dit voordeel.

Subjectief gezien is het scherm boterzacht voor gaming en algemeen gebruik - wees alleen voorbereid op een beetje ghosting en verwacht niet dat de kleuren knallen.

De kleurruimte dekt slechts 56 procent en 36 procent van respectievelijk sRGB en AdobeRGB, wat indicatief is voor een budgetpaneel, ondanks de hoge native refresh rate van 144 Hz. De meeste Ultrabooks of gaminglaptops uit het middensegment of beter dekken ten minste 90 procent van sRGB voor diepere kleuren. De beperkte kleuren hier zijn geen probleem bij gaming, maar grafische bewerkers zullen dit paneel liever niet gebruiken.

X-Rite colorimeter metingen tonen een te warme kleurtemperatuur uit de doos, die onze eigen kalibratie in staat is te corrigeren voor meer accurate grijstinten. De kleurnauwkeurigheid blijft echter onder het gemiddelde, vooral bij hogere verzadigingsniveaus als gevolg van de hierboven genoemde nauwe kleurruimte. Met name blauw wordt met een ruime marge onnauwkeuriger weergegeven dan alle andere geteste kleuren.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd vergelijkbaar is met het gemiddelde (38.5 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.

Ter vergelijking: 51 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 9729 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 151500) Hz waargenomen.

De zichtbaarheid buitenshuis is minder dan gemiddeld, aangezien het beeldscherm niet helderder of zwakker is dan de oude GF65 9SD. De maximale helderheid is iets lager dan die van de meeste gaminglaptops, waar 300 nits of meer gebruikelijk is.

Prestaties

MSI heeft het beeldscherm (120 Hz naar 144 Hz) en RAM (2666 MHz naar 3200 MHz) bijgewerkt van de oudere GF65 9SD. De CPU en GPU zijn bijgewerkt van respectievelijk Coffee Lake-H naar Comet Lake-H en Nvidia Turing naar Ampere.

Minder Core i5-10200H en i5-10500H SKU's zijn ook beschikbaar, maar het 144 Hz IPS beeldscherm en GeForce RTX 3060 blijven vast op alle configuraties vanaf dit schrijven.

We hadden ons systeem ingesteld op de MSI Extreme Performance modus voordat we onderstaande prestatiebenchmarks uitvoerden.

Processor

Multi-thread CPU prestaties zijn langzamer dan de gemiddelde Core i7-10750H in onze database met ongeveer 10 tot 15 procent. In feite is de oudere Core i7-9750H in de Maingear Vector 15 in staat om consequent beter te presteren dan onze MSI met een paar procentpunten in multi-threaded belastingen. Voor betere prestaties moeten gebruikers de Cooler Boost modus (of maximale ventilator modus) inschakelen, zoals beschreven in onze Stress Test sectie hieronder.

Van de vier laptops die we tot nu toe hebben getest met de mobiele GeForce RTX 3060, is onze MSI GF65 de langzaamste van het stel met ongeveer 15 procent volgens de 3DMark benchmarks. De ruwe prestaties liggen nog steeds boven die van de mobiele RTX 2060, zij het met slechts ongeveer 15 procent. Eigenaars van GeForce RTX 2070 laptops zullen nog steeds genieten van iets snellere grafische prestaties dan deze RTX 3060 laptop.
