Kort testrapport MSI GV62 8RE (i5-8300H, GTX 1060, FHD) Laptop

Nieuwe motor, dezelfde behuizing. MSI heeft de nieuwe Coffee Lake processoren geïntroduceerd in hun instapmodel GV62 serie. Hoewel de krachtige Intel CPU een frisse wind doet waaien, is het de enige update sinds het model van vorig jaar. Fouten in het systeem en een kunststof behuizing laten de GV62 8RE nauwelijks opvallen in de massa.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde prima responstijden in onze tests maar is misschien wat te traag voor competitieve games.

Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd vergelijkbaar is met het gemiddelde (25.6 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (41 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.

Ter vergelijking: 52 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 8781 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

MSI staat bekend om het bieden van vele alternatieven om elke doelgroep aan te spreken, maar op dit tempo verzadigen ze hun eigen markt. Het testmodel van dit artikel is daarvoor een bewijs: de GV62 heeft bar weinig te bieden wat andere modellen niet hebben. Het apparaat is vrijwel een exacte kopie van de GF62VR, GE62VR, GL62VR en GP62VR, welke allemaal momenteel verkrijgbaar zijn. De behuizingen, toetsenborden, koelsystemen, poorten en andere onderdelen zijn hetzelfde. De grote verschillen liggen in de specificaties, hoewel daar ook overlap is tussen series.

Afgezien van andere MSI laptops, is de GV62 een redelijk competente instapmodel gaming laptop. Voor $1050 voldoet het apparaat aan veel eisen wat betreft prestaties. De Core i5-8300H past goed bij de GTX 1060, welke niet vaak wordt gebruikt in laptops onder $1200. Vergeleken met andere instapmodel gaming laptops rond $1000 biedt de GV62 een betere prijs/prestaties verhouding voor games en multi-thread applicaties. Echter, deze prestaties gaat ten koste van de behuizing, beeldschermkwaliteit en looptijden.

De GV62 is wellicht een overbodig apparaat, maar is nog steeds een goede keuze voor prijsbewuste gamers. MSI biedt een goed alternatief voor de huidige betaalbare gaming notebooks, zoals de Acer Predator Helios 300 en Dell Inspiron 15 7577.
