Volle kracht vooruit. HTC probeert met de U11 de status quo tussen de topmodellen te veranderen. Het bedrijf heeft veel moderne componenten in een bijzondere behuizing gestopt die er niet alleen interessant uit ziet, maar ook een uniek drukgevoelig frame heeft.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM niet waargenomen

Ter vergelijking: 58 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 5559 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde prima responstijden in onze tests maar is misschien wat te traag voor competitieve games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 34 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd vergelijkbaar is met het gemiddelde (26.9 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Ondanks het feit dat HTC het ontwerp niet veel heeft veranderd, ziet de U11 er kenmerkend anders uit dan de HTC 10 en andere concurrenten dankzij andere materialen en uitzonderlijke kleuren. Vanuit een technisch standpunt presteert de smartphone zeer goed, aangezien het apparaat is uitgerust met een moderne processor en voldoende opslagruimte. De toename in prijs van €50 is veel, maar past bij de jaarlijkse trend.

Hoewel de geluidskwaliteit altijd een van HTC's hoogtepunten is geweest, kan de U11 deze reputatie niet waarmaken. Inderdaad, HTC heeft veel audio technologie geïntegreerd, maar we snappen niet waarom er is gewisseld naar een audio-interface op USB basis. Jammer, want de meegeleverde headset is van hoge kwaliteit. Ook gebruikers die via Bluetooth luidsprekers willen koppelen zullen teleurgesteld zijn; aptX wordt niet ondersteund.

De HTC U11 weet ons te imponeren met ongebruikelijke kleuren, een geweldige camera en uitstekende systeemprestaties. Echter, de batterijlevensduur laat te wensen over.

De HTC U11 maakt uitstekende, hoogwaardige foto's en presteert beter dan de Galaxy S8 bij weinig omgevingslicht. Dit is echter niet voldoende voor een eerste plaats in deze categorie, aangezien we punten aftrekken vanwege ontbrekende opties bij het opnemen van video's.

De U11 is relatief groot, maar bevat slechts een 3000 mAh batterij. Een grotere capaciteit is in onze ogen geen overbodige luxe, aangezien concurrenten het langer volhouden op een acculading. Alles bij elkaar is de HTC U11 echter een uitstekende smartphone.
