Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd slechter is dan het gemiddelde (23.8 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM niet waargenomen

Ter vergelijking: 52 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 17031 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 2500000) Hz waargenomen.

De Xperia XZ als visionair is helaas niet sterk genoeg om een revolutie te ontketenen. Op veel vlakken is dit model te conservatief. We willen het apparaat eerder benoemen als betrouwbaar dan revolutionair.

De camera is het hoogtepunt van de marketingcampagne: het biedt aardige functies, maar is niet meer dan gemiddeld vergeleken met de concurrentie. Daarnaast ontbreekt er beeldstabilisatie, waarmee de beeldkwaliteit bij slechte lichtomstandigheden zou toenemen. De Xperia XZ maakt redelijke foto's, net zoals de rest van de concurrentie.

Op de vlakken van batterijlevensduur, kleurnauwkeurigheid, WLAN snelheden en energieverbruik blijft de Xperia XZ achter. We hadden hier meer verwacht van een telefoon van €700. Het langzame geheugen is vooral ergerlijk, aangezien de laadtijden hierdoor aanzienlijk toenemen.

Sony heeft ook veel goed gedaan: de software heeft veel slimme functies voor nieuwe gebruikers en kan zelfs de beeld- en geluidskwaliteit verbeteren. Het stijlvolle ontwerp is zeker een plus. De luidsprekers en emissies hebben ons ook overtuigd. Daarnaast zijn we te spreken over de beloning voor trouwe klanten, "Xperia Lounge".

Alles bij elkaar presteert de Xperia XZ behoorlijk gemiddeld op veel vlakken. Daardoor komt de telefoon niet echt boven de massa uit. Sony heeft nauwelijks geïnnoveerd, maar wel een degelijke smartphone op de markt gebracht.

We weten dat Sony in staat is om de smartphone markt te revolutioneren: de Xperia Z5 Premium en andere compacte modellen zijn creatief ontworpen. Echter, de Xperia XZ is geen uitdaging voor de gevestigde orde. Ondanks het degelijke karakter, vinden we de adviesprijs van €700 niet gerechtvaardigd. Er zijn veel concurrenten verkrijgbaar, zoals de OnePlus 3, Galaxy S7 of iPhone 7, die allemaal beter presteren.
