Kort testrapport Huawei Mate 9 Phablet

Denk groot! Indien je houdt van grote, snelle phablets, is het nieuwste product van Huawei wellicht interessant. Naast de nieuwe Kirin 960 SoC, bevat het apparaat twee camera's, het moderne Android 7.0 met nieuwe EMUI 5.0 en een grote batterij. Het hoogtepunt is een 5,9 inch IPS beeldscherm. Zonder twijfel een goed apparaat, maar dit artikel laat zien waar het apparaat tekortschiet. Update: Nieuwe informatie over de opslag. Firmware B182 is beschikbaar.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.

Ter vergelijking: 59 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 4352 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

De Mate 9 van Huawei is een evolutie van een high-end serie. Het is de volgende stap wat betreft functies en prestaties en is nog steeds een van de grootste apparaten in deze categorie, hoewel er nu een enigszins kleiner beeldscherm is toegepast. Ondanks de afmetingen ligt het apparaat fijn in de hand.

De technische specificaties geven absoluut geen reden tot klagen. De Kirin 960 is zeer snel en kan zich meten met andere snelle SoC's. We zijn ook te spreken over de multitask mogelijkheden. Het apparaat bevat daarnaast 4 GB RAM en een ruime 64 GB opslagruimte, die ook voldoende snel is. Opslag kan worden uitgebreid met een micro-SD kaart, maar Huawei had de lees- en schrijfsnelheden moeten verbeteren aangezien dit nu te wensen over laat. De resolutie van het paneel had ook hoger kunnen zijn gezien het formaat.

De Huawei Mate 9 combineert krachtige hardware met een goed uithoudingsvermogen. Als je van grote phablets houdt, zal de Mate 9 je niet teleurstellen.

De Mate 9 biedt ook heel wat verbindingsmogelijkheden, zoals LTE Cat. 11 en een groot spectrum aan frequenties. Dankzij App Cloning is het zelfs mogelijk om twee WhatsApp accounts op één apparaat te gebruiken. Het bereik van de Wi-Fi module is goed, hoewel de overdrachtssnelheden achterblijven.

De krachtige batterij rondt het geheel af met lange looptijden. Kortom, als je op zoek bent naar een grote smartphone met krachtige hardware, zijn er momenteel weinig concurrenten voor de Huawei Mate 9.
