Met of zonder afgerond beeldscherm, de smartphones van de Galaxy S6 serie zijn uitgerust met de nieuwste hardwarecomponenten en de Galaxy S6 Edge laat opnieuw zien hoe innovatief de Koreanen kunnen zijn. Je zal voor jezelf moeten beslissen of je de meerprijs van €150 het waard vindt. De Edge is zeker een eye-catcher, maar er bestaan geen gevallen waarbij je het afgeronde beeldscherm absoluut nodig hebt.

De SoC van Samsung is zeer snel en het beeldscherm is uitstekend. Daarnaast krijg je snel Internet via LTE Cat. 6 en snel WLAN, waarvan het bereik ook groot is. De camera is sterk verbeterd en presteert nu ook goed bij weinig licht. Ook worden foto's snel genomen. Daarnaast zijn we tevreden over een aantal ontwerpbeslissingen, zoals het gebruik van aluminium en glas.

Samsung combineert bij de S6 Edge een topontwerp en uitstekende technologie. Er zijn niet veel vlakken waarop de smartphone sterk kan verbeteren.

Er is echter ook kritiek op het topmodel van Samsung. Het weglaten van een slot voor een microSD kaart om het geheugen uit te breiden is onhandig, dus potentiële kopers zullen de capaciteit moeten overwegen. De fabrikant zou ook de stereopoort moeten verbeteren en daarnaast presteert de luidspreker een stuk slechter dan die van concurrenten, zoals de One M9. De meegeleverde headset is een grap gezien de hoge prijs.

Samsung heeft met de Galaxy S6 Edge een overtuigend pakket afgeleverd, dat de eerste plaats deelt met z'n broer. Het apparaat bevat niet alleen de nieuwste technologie, maar heeft ook op vele aspecten records gevestigd. Het afgeronde beeldscherm is een kwestie van smaak.
