Explosieve combinatie. De Note is eindelijk weer beschikbaar in Europa. De lancering wordt echter overschaduwd door technische problemen die een wereldwijde terugroepactie als gevolg hadden. We nemen toch een kijkje naar de Galaxy Note 7.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (24.9 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 59.52 Hz

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 59.52 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) .

De frequentie van 59.52 Hz is erg laag en kan dus aanleiding geven tot geïrriteerde ogen en hoofdpijn bij langer gebruik.

Ter vergelijking: 51 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 13608 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 2500000) Hz waargenomen.

Samsung levert weer een fantastische smartphone af met de Galaxy Note 7, welke nog steeds geen echte concurrentie heeft. Geen enkele andere smartphone biedt een vergelijkbaar krachtige accessoire zoals de S Pen, welke continue verbeterd is door de fabrikant en veel meer is dan simpelweg een stylus.

Je krijgt ook uitstekende hardware. Het begint met het beeldscherm en gevolgd door de processor, de genereuze en snelle geheugen configuratie tot aande behuizing. Deze laatste maakt niet enkel een elegante indruk maar beschermt ook tegen water en stof. De camera maakt fantastische foto's en de batterij heeft lange looptijden. En het is Samsung zelfs gelukt om eindelijk een USB Type-C-poort te integreren in zijn phablet.

Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 schept op met zijn high-end hardware en een uitmuntende S Pen. Slechts de accuproblemen met de eerste modellen vormen nogal een probleem in deze prijsklasse.

Er is ook kritiek op een aantal details. De WLAN module heeft verrassend lage prestaties en de mogelijkheden van USB 3.1 hadden beter benut kunnen worden. We snappen ook niet echt waarom Samsung het apparaat levert met enkel een USB 2.0 kabel. De luidspreker prestaties hadden beter gekund en de toegenomen prijs zal een groot gat in je portemonnee slaan.

Fans van de Note-serie zullen nog steeds enthousiast zijn, en als je op zoek bent naar goede digitale assistent is er bijna niet om de Samsung Galaxy Note 7 heen te komen.
