Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.

De frequentie van 240.4 Hz is redelijk laag en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering kunnen dit dus waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen (gebruikmakend van de vermelde helderheid en lager).

Ter vergelijking: 53 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 17924 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 3846000) Hz waargenomen.

De Huawei P9 Plus is niet slechts een grotere versie van de standaard P9. Het Plus model bevat niet alleen een groter beeldscherm en grotere batterij, maar heeft ook enkele extra functionaliteiten. De IR module en extra luidspreker voegen zeker waarde toe voor bepaalde gebruikers, maar de Press Touch functie staat nog in de kinderschoenen voor Android. Tot nu toe werken de context menu's alleen voor Huawei's eigen apps. De functie was alleen zeer handig voor het zoomen bij foto's, maar we verwachten dat de situatie gaat verbeteren.

De grote vraag is natuurlijk of de P9 Plus de extra 130 euro waard is vergeleken met de P9. Het antwoord is niet eenvoudig te geven, omdat de twee modellen in de basis vrijwel identiek zijn. Dan hebben we het over de behuizing, verbindingsmogelijkheden, camera, gesprekskwaliteit en de prestaties. Als je alle verbeteringen overweegt (verdubbeld geheugen, meer RAM, groter beeldscherm, grotere batterij, extra functies), is de meerprijs het wel waard. We kunnen dan ook beide modellen aanbevelen.

De Huawei P9 Plus kan de hogere prijs rechtvaardigen. Je krijgt een hoge kwaliteit smartphone met veel goede eigenschappen; alleen de videofuncties van het apparaat presteerden ondermaats.

De P9 Plus is met de adviesprijs van 700 euro zeker geen koopje, hoewel de telefoon zich ook niet hoeft te verbergen achter rivalen. Alleen de videokwaliteit (geen 4K) en grafische prestaties zijn teleurstellend vergeleken met de concurrenten. Dat de P9 Plus in totaal een enigszins lagere score krijgt, ondanks de aanvullende functies, ligt aan de lagere deelscore van het beeldscherm.
