Kort testrapport Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Smartphone: geoptimaliseerde SoC belooft betere batterijduur

Smartphone met toverstaf. De S-Pen en het uitzonderlijke scherm kunnen de Galaxy Note opnieuw onderscheiden van zijn Galaxy S-zustermodellen. De Galaxy Note van dit jaar is het eerste toestel dat gebruik maakt van een nieuwere SoC dan de Galaxy S die hem voorafging. Het wordt dus interessant om te zien welke verbeteringen de Exynos 9825 brengt ten opzichte van de Exynos 9820. Op veel vlakken is de Note 10+ een opgefriste Galaxy S10+ met een aantal kleine verschillen. Lees verder om te weten te komen hoe de Note 10+ precies presteert.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 250 Hz ≤ 99 % helderheid instelling

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 250 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) aan een helderheid van 99 % en lager. Boven deze helderheid zou er geen flickering / PWM mogen optreden.

De frequentie van 250 Hz is redelijk laag en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering kunnen dit dus waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen (gebruikmakend van de vermelde helderheid en lager).

Ter vergelijking: 51 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 9418 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde erg snelle responstijden in onze tests en zou zeer geschikt moeten zijn voor snelle games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 1 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (25 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

De Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ is een erg aantrekkelijk totaalpakket, maar dat heeft ook zijn prijs, zeker wanneer het prijskaartje veel groter is dan dat van zijn voorganger. De ultrasone vingerafdruklezer en camera's zijn een verbetering ten opzichte van de Note 9, maar het praktische nut van de nieuwe S-Pen gebaren is onduidelijk. Daarnaast betwijfelen we of veel mensen bij hun dagelijks gebruik überhaupt baat hebben bij de inbegrepen S-Pen. We begrijpen ook niet waarom Samsung ervoor heeft gekozen om geen optie voor 1 TB en 3D-gezichtsherkenning aan te bieden voor zijn duurste vlaggenschip.

Groot, krachtig en aantrekkelijk - de Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ is een fantastische smartphone die echter weinig meer heeft te bieden dan zijn rechtstreekse voorgangers, de Galaxy Note 9 en Galaxy S9.

Niettemin is de 10+ een prima uitgeruste smartphone die bijna alles heeft, afgezien van de koptelefoon-aansluiting: eveneens een eigenaardig gebrek. De weigerachtige houding van Samsung om bepaalde Bluetooth-codecs te ondersteunen stoort ons ook.

Hoewel de Exynos 9825 energie-efficiënter is dan zijn voorganger, zijn deze verbeteringen alleen merkbaar bij aanhoudende belasting. De Note 10+ heeft, net als de oudere Samsung Galaxy-smartphones die we hebben getest, een matige tot zwakke batterijduur.

Al bij al hebben we maar weinig kritiek op de Note 10+. Het is een uitstekend vlaggenschip en behoort tot de beste smartphones die je momenteel kan kopen.
