Terwijl de ZBook Fury 15 G7 een enorme revisie betekende ten opzichte van de ZBook Fury 15 G6, is de nieuwste ZBook Fury 15 G8 over het geheel genomen een relatief kleine update. Het nieuwere model wordt geleverd met Tiger Lake-H CPU's en Nvidia Ampere GPU's ter vervanging van de Comet Lake-H en Nvidia Turing opties van vorig jaar. Het beeldscherm is ook geüpgraded van 4K 60 Hz naar 4K 120 Hz om een van de weinige 15-inch laptops te zijn met een dergelijke paneeloptie

Onderhoud - Hou een schroevendraaier klaar

Het bodempaneel schuift er gemakkelijk af - geen gereedschap of schroevendraaiers nodig. Eenmaal binnen zitten de meeste componenten echter toch onder metalen platen die een Philips schroevendraaier vereisen om te verwijderen. Extra RAM en opslagcomponenten zitten aan de andere kant van het moederbord en zijn dus niet zo gemakkelijk bereikbaar.

Beeldscherm - 120 Hz maakt het verschil

Het nieuwe 4K 120 Hz paneel op de Fury 15 G8 is een aanzienlijke verbetering ten opzichte van het 4K 60 Hz paneel op de Fury 15 G7, ondanks dat het dezelfde hoge native resolutie en brede kleurdekking heeft. Afgezien van de voor de hand liggende voordelen van de overstap van 60 Hz naar 120 Hz, biedt het nieuwere paneel veel snellere zwart-wit en grijs-grijs reactietijden met bijna 4x voor minder merkbare ghosting, vooral wanneer u te maken heeft met snel bewegende graphics. Zowel helderheid als contrast blijven hoog met respectievelijk ~600:1 en >1000:1

Misschien wel het grootste nadeel van het 4K-paneel is dat het wat korrelig is door de matte overlay, waardoor teksten en afbeeldingen niet zo scherp lijken als ze hadden kunnen zijn, ondanks de zeer hoge PPI. HP biedt glanzende opties om dit specifieke nadeel te ondervangen.

Onze X-Rite colorimeter laat een DCI-P3 dekking zien van 96 procent tegenover de 100 procent claim van HP. Combineer de brede kleuren met de zeer snelle responstijden en je hebt een 4K-paneel dat uitstekend werkt voor zowel professionele grafische bewerking als gaming-toepassingen.

Het scherm had uit de doos beter gekalibreerd kunnen worden tegen de DCI-P3 standaard. De gemiddelde grayscale en color deltaE waarden uit de doos zijn respectievelijk 6.2 en 5.41, met een te warme kleurtemperatuur van 6100. Door het paneel zelf te kalibreren met een X-Rite colorimeter kunnen deze tekortkomingen worden verholpen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde prima responstijden in onze tests maar is misschien wat te traag voor competitieve games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 16 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (23.8 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (37.7 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.

Ter vergelijking: 52 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 17025 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 2500000) Hz waargenomen.

De zichtbaarheid buitenshuis is beter dan op veel andere werkstations, dankzij de extra heldere 600 nit achtergrondverlichting. Zelfs HP's eigenZBook Studio 15 G8 of Firefly 15 G7 benaderen niet elk 400 nits bij hun respectieve maximale helderheidsinstellingen. Desondanks wil je het lettertype nog steeds de juiste schaal geven en in de schaduw werken om de zichtbaarheid te maximaliseren.

Prestaties - Intel 11e Gen

CPU opties omvatten Tiger Lake-H CPU's en zowel Nvidia T1200 als RTX A series GPU's tot aan de RTX A5000. Xeon en zelfs Radeon Pro W6600M opties zijn ook beschikbaar voor een zeer breed scala aan configureerbare opties. Met name de high-end opties behoren tot de snelste mobiele workstation-klasse processoren die je op welke laptop dan ook kunt vinden

Resizable Bar en Dynamic Boost 2.0 worden ondersteund, terwijl Advanced Optimus en WhisperMode 2.0 dat niet zijn. Er is helaas ook geen handmatige grafische schakelaar.

 

Processor

Multi-thread CPU-prestaties zijn een paar procentpunten minder dan de Core i9-11900H zoals gevonden in de concurrerende MSI WS66 wat te verwachten is door de integratie van vPro functies Core i9-11950H single-thread prestaties blijven echter uitstekend en op hetzelfde niveau als zijn non-vPro tegenhanger. De algehele multi-thread prestaties zijn ongeveer 15 procent hoger dan de Xeon W-10885M in de ZBook Fury 15 G7 van vorig jaar, maar uiteraard zonder ondersteuning voor ECC RAM.

DPC routinetijden zouden echter pieken, net als wat we waarnamen op de Fury 15 G7 van vorig jaar. 4K video afspelen op 60 FPS is verder vloeiend en zonder wegvallende frames.

Ons apparaat kan tot vier interne opslagschijven ondersteunen (2x M.2 2280, 1x M.2 2242, 1x 2,5-inch SATA III). Interessant is dat HP geen PCIe4 opties biedt, omdat alle huidige SKU's in plaats daarvan PCIe3 SSD's hebben, zoals de bekende Samsung PM981a. We hebben HP gevraagd om te bevestigen of PCIe4 NVMe snelheden worden ondersteund en we zullen deze pagina dienovereenkomstig bijwerken.

De ruwe grafische prestaties liggen tussen de mobiele GeForce RTX 3060 en mobiele RTX 3070 ongeveer 10 tot 20 procent sneller te zijn dan de Quadro RTX 5000 Max-Q in de oudere Fury 15 G7. Bepaalde subbenchmarks binnen SpecViewPerf laten zelfs een verbetering zien van 40 tot 50 procent

Hoewel niet geoptimaliseerd voor gaming, kan het systeem zich zeker door zelfs de meest veeleisende titels op QHD-resolutie heen worstelen. De algehele gaming prestaties zijn in de meeste gevallen vergelijkbaar met de mobiele GeForce RTX 3060.
