Kort testrapport Google Pixel 4: niet langer op de voorgrond

Korte adem. De Pixel 4 biedt bijna geen echte updates, behalve een aanraakvrije bewegingsbedieningsfunctie en een 90 Hz beeldscherm. Anders kan het apparaat vooral als een facelift worden beschouwd. Helaas beschikt deze niet langer over een vingerafdruklezer en is de capaciteit van de batterij afgenomen. Laten we eens kijken of dit nieuwe recept echt werkt.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 367.6 Hz

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 367.6 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) .

De frequentie van 367.6 Hz is relatief hoog en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering zouden dit dus niet mogen waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen. Er zijn echter rapporten die beweren dat sommige mensen toch flickering met 500 Hz en hoger kunnen waarnemen: opgelet dus.

Ter vergelijking: 51 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 9355 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde erg snelle responstijden in onze tests en zou zeer geschikt moeten zijn voor snelle games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 0 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (24.8 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

We vinden het moeilijk om de Google Pixel 4 op te nemen in de gelederen van andere high-end smartphones. Het lijkt veel meer op meer betaalbare topmodellen, zoals de OnePlus 7T of de ZenFone 6. Google blijft zich richten op software in plaats van hardware-innovaties. Touchless gebaren zijn intuïtiever dan op de LG G8s; ze missen echter functionaliteit en diepgang en voelen over het algemeen onafgewerkt aan.

Nogmaals, de camera is een van de belangrijkste troeven van de Pixel en heeft nu een extra telelens. Jammer dat het een ultragroothoeklens mist. De verhouding display-body is redelijk slecht, maar wordt gecompenseerd door het redelijke 90 Hz-paneel. Helaas is het scherm niet zo helder als sommige van zijn concurrenten en kan het dus niet zo goed HDR-inhoud weergeven.

Pixel 4 van Google biedt een geweldige camera en de nieuwste software. Helaas is de kleine batterij een groot nadeel.

Opslagcapaciteit is ook een probleem. 64 GB zonder de mogelijkheid van geheugenuitbreiding is gewoon niet genoeg in deze prijsklasse, een handicap die zelfs niet kan worden gecompenseerd door een drie jaar aan updates. Aan de andere kant zijn we tevreden over de snellaad-functie en een IP68-gecertificeerde hoes. Echter, deze pluspunten worden vervolgens snel gemarginaliseerd door de kleine batterij met zijn slechte batterijlevensduur.

 

Als je van pure Android houdt en voorop wilt lopen op het gebied van software, dan is een Pixel-smartphone een must voor jou. Overweeg anders eens de Pixel 3a. Ja, dat model is niet zo technologisch geavanceerd als de Pixel 4, maar biedt in plaats daarvan een veel betere batterijduur.
