Onze verwachtingen van de €80-kostende smartphone zijn hoog, omdat het bedrijf er tot nu toe in is geslaagd om keer op keer geweldige prestaties te leveren voor een goede prijs. Werkt dit ook in het absoluut goedkoopste prijssegment?

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 100 Hz ≤ 30 % helderheid instelling

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 100 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) aan een helderheid van 30 % en lager. Boven deze helderheid zou er geen flickering / PWM mogen optreden.

De frequentie van 100 Hz is erg laag en kan dus aanleiding geven tot geïrriteerde ogen en hoofdpijn bij langer gebruik.

Ter vergelijking: 51 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 9524 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde prima responstijden in onze tests maar is misschien wat te traag voor competitieve games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 16 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (25.3 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

De Xiaomi Redmi Go verrast opnieuw: voor een zeer lage prijs krijg je veel meer dan verwacht. Onder andere hogere prestaties, meer LTE-frequenties en een betere camera dan anders typerend voor deze prijsklasse. Verder is de behuizing vrij stabiel en de batterijlevensduur behoorlijk. Er is echter geen verwisselbare batterij zoals bij veel laag geprijsde smartphones.

Het is jammer dat Xiaomi de kale Android Go van Google heeft volgeladen met bloatware, waaronder Launcher en vooraf geïnstalleerde apps: met slechts 8 GB opslagruimte telt elke bruikbare MB. Je kunt het geheugen echter nog steeds comfortabel uitbreiden met een microSD-kaart. Bovendien kunnen tegelijkertijd twee simkaarten worden gebruikt.

De Xiaomi Redmi Go voelt aanzienlijk waardevoller en sneller aan dan de prijs doet vermoeden.

Om onze eerste vraag te beantwoorden: Ja, het is een bingo - of is de naam gewoon bingo? In elk geval zet de Xiaomi Redmi Go opnieuw de norm, zelfs bij de laagst geprijsde smartphones. Degenen zonder hoge eisen en met de bereidheid om de enigszins onduidelijke garantiesituatie in sommige landen te accepteren, krijgen veel prestaties voor hun geld.
