Great for the price. De nieuwste VivoBook convertible laat de bal niet vaak vallen. Hoewel het niet een enorme upgrade is in vergelijking met het vorige model wat betreft de features en specificaties, is de behuizing nu slanker en aantrekkelijker in de <$800 prijsklasse.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM niet waargenomen

Ter vergelijking: 53 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 8811 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

De 2018 VivoBook Flip TP412 doet zowel stappen vooruit als stappen terug in vergelijking met zijn directe voorganger. De Kaby Lake-R update is zonder meer sneller en leid tegelijkertijd tot een dunnere, lichtere en langduriger notebook. Helaas is het beeldscherm dimmer, het kleurbereik kleiner en ontbreekt de tweede 2.5-inch SATA-sleuf waarover de TP410 beschikte.

Voor een verkoopprijs van $700 tot $800 is de TP412 een overtuigend 14-inch convertible zonder de extra features waarover duurdere convertibles beschikken. De veelzijdigheid maakt het apparaat geschikt voor gebruik binnen, maar door het dimme beeldscherm is het niet erg geschikt voor gebruik buiten.

Eerlijk voor de prijs. De VivoBook Flip TP412 biedt niets in deze prijsklasse onverwacht is en kopers moet overtuigen. Hopelijk zullen toekomstige iteraties uitgerust worden met een helderder beeldscherm voor gebruik buiten.
