Hoe gaat de dunne behuizing om met de extra prestaties en wat is het effect op de batterijduur?

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde trage responstijden in onze tests en is misschien te traag voor games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 82 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd slechter is dan het gemiddelde (24.9 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Het scherm vertoonde trage responstijden in onze tests en is misschien te traag voor games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.9 (minimum) tot 636 (maximum) ms. » 75 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd slechter is dan het gemiddelde (39.6 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 980.4 Hz ≤ 25 % helderheid instelling

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 980.4 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) aan een helderheid van 25 % en lager. Boven deze helderheid zou er geen flickering / PWM mogen optreden.

De frequentie van 980.4 Hz is redelijk hoog en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering zouden dit dus niet mogen waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen.

Ter vergelijking: 51 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 9266 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

Meer CPU-kernen, snellere grafische prestaties en meer pixels - is de duurdere specificatie van de XPS 15 9570 de betere keuze? Nee, althans niet voor elke gebruiker. Het goede gebruik van de CPU en de GPU is absoluut een positief aspect, wat niet altijd het geval is met slanke apparaten. Je kunt de CPU-prestaties zelfs nog verder optimaliseren, dus de Core i7-optie is een goed idee als je veel CPU-kracht nodig hebt. De keuze voor de GPU is ook niet zo moeilijk, want de GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q is iets sneller en biedt meer reserves voor de toekomst.

De beeldschermkeuze is een groter probleem. Het optionele 4K UHD-aanraakscherm is een beetje helderder en ondersteunt touch-invoer (of dit een voordeel is komt neer op uw persoonlijke voorkeur), maar het is glanzend en we zijn verrast over de hoge kleurafwijkingen, die slechts enigszins worden verbeterd door een kalibratie. Het 4K-scherm is daarom niet de beste keuze voor beeld- en videobewerking. Het verhoogt ook het gewicht een beetje en verbruikt veel meer elektriciteit, dus de batterijlevensduur is veel korter. Ongeveer 9,5 uur is niet slecht voor een 15-inch systeem, maar de XPS 15 met het matte 1080p-paneel gaat veel langer mee. De andere eigenschappen van het 1080p-beeldscherm (helderheid, contrast, enz.) zijn ook goed, dus de goedkopere versie is waarschijnlijk de betere keuze voor veel gebruikers.

De extra prestaties van de processor en de grafische kaart zijn zonder meer een voordeel, maar het optionele 4K-aanraakscherm laat gemengde indrukken achter. Het verbruikt veel stroom en enorme kleurafwijkingen voorkomen een betere score.

Ons testmodel had ook last van zoemende geluiden en de ventilatoren hebben de neiging te pulseren tijdens gemiddelde belastingen. Over het algemeen is deze XPS 15 SKU nog steeds een zeer goede multimedia-laptop, maar het basismodel was een meer uitgebalanceerd pakket en kreeg daardoor een hogere totaalscore. De beste configuratie is waarschijnlijk het FHD-scherm in combinatie met de Core i7 en de GTX 1050 Ti. We zullen een afzonderlijk testrapport van het Core i9-model uitbrengen om na te gaan of het de extra prijs waard is.
