Kort testrapport HP Spectre x360 15 (i7-8705G, Radeon RX Vega M GL) Convertible

Indrukwekkende hardware, gemengde prestaties. Kaby Lake-G is tot nu toe indrukwekkend, maar de algehele prestaties hangen erg af van de implementatie door de OEM. De HP Spectre x360 15 is helaas door de behoorlijke throttling issues niet het beste voorbeeld voor het Intel-AMD-platform.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde prima responstijden in onze tests maar is misschien wat te traag voor competitieve games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 31 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd vergelijkbaar is met het gemiddelde (25.8 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Het scherm vertoonde trage responstijden in onze tests en is misschien te traag voor games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.9 (minimum) tot 636 (maximum) ms. » 27 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (41.3 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 943.4 Hz ≤ 99 % helderheid instelling

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 943.4 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) aan een helderheid van 99 % en lager. Boven deze helderheid zou er geen flickering / PWM mogen optreden.

De frequentie van 943.4 Hz is redelijk hoog en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering zouden dit dus niet mogen waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen.

Ter vergelijking: 53 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 8813 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

Een 15-inch convertible is lastig goed uit te voeren, simpelweg omdat het grote schermformaat de tablet-modus onhandzamer maakt dan kleinere opties. De HP Spectre x360 15 mag dan iets groter zijn dan de concurrerende XPS 15 9575, maar het ontwerp en de kwaliteit doen voor niemand onder.

Als je de prestaties van de Kaby Lake-G Spectre nader bekijkt begint het systeem teleur te stellen in vergelijking met de Kaby Lake-R configuratie. Op papier zouden de Core i7-8705G en Radeon RX Vega M GL aanzienlijk sneller moeten zijn dan de i7-8550U en GeForce MX150. In de praktijk heeft de Kaby Lake-G SKU echter last van aanzienlijke throttling issues die er toe leiden dat het prestatievoordeel van het platform volledig teniet doet. Eigenaren die van plan zijn het notebook vooral voor tekstverwerken, streamen of browsen te gebruiken zullen niet veel throttling opmerken, maar bij veeleisender toepassingen zoals games zal het systeem teveel zijn.

Het kleine verbruiksprofiel van de i7-8550U en GeForce MX150 werken ook in het voordeel van de minder dure Kaby Lake-R configuratie. Ons Kaby Lake-G testmodel is over het algemeen luider en heeft een kortere batterijduur dan de Kaby Lake-R versie.

Als je van plan bent om veel t egamen of gevoelig bent voor flikkeringen op het scherm, dan kun je beter kiezen voor de XPS 15 9575 of een dedicated mainstream game notebook met GTX 1050 Ti grafische kaart als de 2-in-1 functionaliteit minder belangrijk is. Als browsen en licht multimedia gebruik je doel is, dan zal de Kaby Lake-R Spectre meer dan voldoende zijn.

Kaby Lake-G is een indrukwekkende technologie zoals bewezen in de Intel Hades Canyon NUC en Dell XPS 15 8575. De Spectre x360 15 is de minst indrukwekkende implementatie van het platform dat we tot dusver gezien hebben. Als je Kaby Lake-G wilt, dan is de concurrent van Dell de betere optie. Anders kun je jezelf de prestaties issues door throttling besparen door te kiezen voor de minder dure en stabielere Kaby Lake-R Spectre x360 15 configuratie.
