Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 83 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd slechter is dan het gemiddelde (26.6 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.9 (minimum) tot 636 (maximum) ms. » 61 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd vergelijkbaar is met het gemiddelde (42.5 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 25510 Hz29 % helderheid instelling

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 25510 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) aan een helderheid van 29 % en lager. Boven deze helderheid zou er geen flickering / PWM mogen optreden.

De frequentie van 25510 Hz is redelijk hoog en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering zouden dit dus niet mogen waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen.

Ter vergelijking: 54 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 8581 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

De $1700 kostende Asus Zenbook Pro UX550VE met GTX 1050 Ti heeft wat betreft prestaties grote stappen gemaakt sinds de UX550VD met GTX 1050. Het apparaat bevat nog dezelfde fraaie unibody behuizing, welke een laag gewicht en beperkte afmetingen heeft. Daarnaast is het aanbod van poorten veelzijdig, hoewel het vervangen van twee conventionele USB Type-A poorten met Thunderbolt/Type-C volgens ons te ver op zaken vooruitloopt. Het apparaat presteert ook goed bij korte, geconcentreerde belasting, terwijl de looptijden in vergelijking met de concurrentie daar geen nadeel van ondervinden. Ook is het apparaat eenvoudig te onderhouden.

Alles bij elkaar is de Zenbook Pro een aantrekkelijk pakket zonder grote tekortkomingen, afgezien van beperkte prestaties bij langdurige belasting.

Terugkerende klachten van ons voorgaande testapparaat zijn de teleurstellende CPU en GPU prestaties bij gezamenlijke belasting en het feit dat de GTX 1050 Ti nooit maximaal heeft kunnen presteren. De prestaties liggen nog steeds ver boven die van het GTX 1050 model, hoewel een krachtiger koelsysteem de potentie van het apparaat aanzienlijk verhoogd had. Een ander nadeel vergeleken met de voorganger zijn de enigszins hogere geluidsniveaus (het huidige testmodel heeft echter last van een zwakke ventilator). Tenslotte kwamen we enkele kleinere gebreken tegen: een slechte webcam en PWM bij een helderheid lager dan 30%.

Een stevigere behuizing, betere invoerapparaten en een hoogwaardiger beeldscherm zijn terug te vinden bij duurdere concurrenten, zoals de Dell XPS 15 9560Lenovo Yoga 720MSI GS63VR, en Microsoft Surface Book 2. Echter, de Zenbook Pro blijft een aantrekkelijk pakket zonder grote tekortkomingen, afgezien van de teleurstellende prestaties onder langdurige belasting.
