Lichtste en meest heldere 13-inch Ultrabook. The Notebook 9 serie blijft indruk maken met het nieuwste apparaat, welke verkrijgbaar is voor $1000. De 13 inch notebook bezuinigt op enkele aspecten die populaire concurrenten te bieden hebben, maar deze gebreken zijn niet extreem problematisch.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd slechter is dan het gemiddelde (26.6 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.9 (minimum) tot 636 (maximum) ms. » 51 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd vergelijkbaar is met het gemiddelde (42.5 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 210.1 Hz99 % helderheid instelling

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 210.1 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) aan een helderheid van 99 % en lager. Boven deze helderheid zou er geen flickering / PWM mogen optreden.

De frequentie van 210.1 Hz is redelijk laag en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering kunnen dit dus waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen (gebruikmakend van de vermelde helderheid en lager).

Ter vergelijking: 54 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 8568 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

De 13 inch Notebook 9 was ontworpen met maar één doel: de lichtste en meest heldere Ultrabook in deze klasse te worden. Samsung heeft een homerun geslagen, aangezien de NP900X3N niet slechts marginaal beter is dan de nummer twee, maar grensverleggend is. Combineer dit met de stille ventilator, volledige grootte USB poorten en aangename toetsenbord en het apparaat wordt gemakkelijk de beste 13 inch Ultrabook voor reizen en buitenshuis gebruik.

Samsungs agressieve aanpak om de lichtste Ultrabook te creëren heeft tot offers op andere plekken geleid. Om het gewicht zo laag mogelijk te houden, zijn er geen touchscreen en Gorilla Glass opties en zijn zowel de batterij als het koelsysteem relatief klein. De zwakke batterij resulteert in ondermaatse looptijden voor een notebook die anderzijds extreem geschikt is voor mobiel gebruik. De stabiliteit van de behuizing is helaas niet vergelijkbaar met die van de XPS 13 of MacBook Pro 13.

We hopen dat toekomstige versies Thunderbolt 3, SIM mogelijkheden en een mat beeldscherm bevatten om de Notebook 9 een nog betere subnotebook te maken. Tot die tijd blijft het Samsung apparaat met het lage gewicht, heldere beeldscherm en volledige grootte USB en HDMI poorten nog steeds een goed alternatief voor concurrenten zoals de Zenbook 3, Matebook X, Yoga 910 en Spectre 13.

Het extreem heldere beeldscherm en beperkte gewicht maken deze 13 inch Notebook 9 een zeer aantrekkelijke optie voor de mobiele gebruiker. Indien lange looptijden en Thunderbolt 3 docking mogelijkheden van belang zijn, valt er nog veel te kiezen tussen de alternatieven.
