Stil en krachtig. De ThinkPad P71 is Lenovo's grootste en krachtigste mobiele werkstation. Het is een krachtige machine, maar in de meeste situaties nog steeds plezierig stil. Ook krijg je er een erg goed 4K UHD paneel bij.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde prima responstijden in onze tests maar is misschien wat te traag voor competitieve games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 28 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (26.3 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Het scherm vertoonde trage responstijden in onze tests en is misschien te traag voor games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.9 (minimum) tot 636 (maximum) ms. » 41 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd vergelijkbaar is met het gemiddelde (42.1 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 1412 Hz ≤ 90 % helderheid instelling

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 1412 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) aan een helderheid van 90 % en lager. Boven deze helderheid zou er geen flickering / PWM mogen optreden.

De frequentie van 1412 Hz is redelijk hoog en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering zouden dit dus niet mogen waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen.

Ter vergelijking: 54 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 9953 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 588200) Hz waargenomen.

Wat niet kapot is, hoef je niet te repareren - dit is waarschijnlijk de aanpak van Lenovo voor de ThinkPad P71 geweest. De voorgaande P70 was het eerste 17-inch werkstation sinds enige tijd, maar er waren geen grote issues.

Sommige aspecten zijn dit jaar nog beter geworden, zoals de verbeterde schaling in Windows 10 (hoewel dit nauwelijks aan Lenovo toe te schrijven is). Er is niets veranderd aan het erg goede 4K paneel, maar de geïntegreerde kalibratie werkt deze keer veel beter. Je krijgt nog steeds een erg stevige behuizing, uitstekende invoerapparaten en een goed koelsysteem. Door dit laatste kan ons testmodel op een bijna perfect niveau de prestaties van de componenten benutten.

Dit bringt ons op de veranderingen: de componenten. De nieuwe Kaby Lake processor is slechts een kleine upgrade in vergelijking met de oudere Skylake, maar de Quadro P3000 GPU is veel sneller en tegelijkertijd veel efficiënter is dan de oudere Quadro M3000M. De ventilator blijft de meeste tijd stil en de temperaturen zijn niet kritiek hoog, waardoor je kunt genieten van een erg comfortabele werkomgeving, zelfs onder belasting. We hebben in het Engelse testrapport al benoemd hoe dit waarschijnlijk wel anders wordt als je kiest voor een van de krachtiger grafische kaarten (P4000 & P5000).

Het hoogtepunt van de ThinkPad P71 is de nieuwe GPU generatie. Dankzij de goede koeling, het erg goede beeldscherm en de fantastische invoerapparaten, krijg je een van de beste mobiele werkstations op de markt.

We kunnen dit jaar geen grote fouten vinden. De webcam had eindelijk een upgrade kunnen krijgen en ook hadden we betere luidsprekers verwacht in een dergelijk groot mobiel werkstation. De incidentele fluitende spoel is hinderlijker doordat de ventilatoren zo vaak gedeactiveerd zijn bij lichte belastingen, waardoor je makkelijker andere geluiden hoort in stille omgevingen.
