Hoe slim is de Huawei P Smart? Waarom hebben we hier niet aan gedacht? 'Smart'als naam kiezen voor een smartphone is al even onsubtiel als een voetbalteam 'Die Manschafft' ('het team') noemen: wat betekent 'smart' hier precies?

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM niet waargenomen

Ter vergelijking: 52 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 8933 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde prima responstijden in onze tests maar is misschien wat te traag voor competitieve games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 15 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (25.6 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

De Huawei P Smart lijkt wel deel uit te maken van een promotiecampagne voor mid-range smartphones. Zijn relevante hardwarespecificaties zoals CPU, GPU of GSM-capaciteiten zijn op hetzelfde niveau als die van andere mid-range toestellen als de P8 Lite, Mate 10 Lite en Honor 9 Lite. De Mate 10 Lite beschikt over meer RAM en opslagruimte, maar is ook duurder dan de P Smart. In tegenstelling tot de Mate 10 Lite wordt de P Smart niet onderworpen aan een rechtstreeks vergelijking met een gelijknamig, maar beter uitgerust topmodel. De vraag waarmee we dit testrapport inzetten kan dus ook het best beantwoord worden binnen de context van de mid-range klasse.

De Huawei P Smart is een degelijke mid-range smartphone zonder ambities om zich te meten met de bekendere topmodellen.

Prijs/prestaties-verhouding is degelijk, net als de algemene performance - het toestel is zeker niet de snelste, maar belandt meestal wel in de bovenste helft. Besturingssysteem en EMUI zijn up-to-date. De hoogwaardige aluminium behuizing met zijn erg goede 'screen-to-body'-verhouding stemt overeen met de ambities van de P Smart, maar slaagt er niet in om de twee grootste nadelen te verhullen: de erg beperkte dekking van GSM-frequenties en de korte batterijduur onder belasting.
