Uitdaging voor een duel. De Honor 10 is het vlaggenschip van dit jaar van de dochteronderneming van Huawei, met high-end specificaties, krachtige dual camera en een middenklasse prijs. De smartphone is beschikbaar in nieuwe en ongebruikelijke kleuren. Een lagere prijs is prima, maar in ons testrapport bekijken we welke tekortkomingen je daarvoor moet accepteren.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM niet waargenomen

Ter vergelijking: 52 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 8770 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde relatief trage responstijden in onze tests en is misschien te traag voor games.

Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd slechter is dan het gemiddelde (25.6 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Met de 10 zet Honor zijn beste beentje voor en biedt niet slechts een verbeterde versie van het model van vorig jaar, maar ook dappere kleurvarianten, de concurrentie schokkend met een sterke adviesprijs van € 399.

De directe vergelijking met de Huawei P20 wordt lastig. Hoewel er veel overeenkomsten zijn op papier doet het veel duurdere smartphone van het moederbedrijf het op elk vlak in elk geval een beetje beter. Enkel de systeemprestaties zijn vergelijkbaar. Het prijsverschil is daarmee in onze ogen gerechtvaardigd.

Een ieder die een elegante smartphone zoekt met een high-end uiterlijk kan zonder zorgen kiezen voor de Honor 10. 

De Honor 10 is nog steeds een erg goede smartphone. Het heeft een goed, helder beeldscherm, dat ook best groot is, maar niet zo gigantisch als sommige concurrenten. Neem daarbij de goede camera, fantastische batterijduur en goede prestaties. Gekeken naar de systeemprestaties, het uiterlijk, het aanvoelen, zou je niet raden dat deze smartphone "slechts" € 400 kost.

Het is ook positief dat nu snel UFS-2.1 opslag gebruikt wordt, dat dual-SIM aanwezig is en dat de GPS erg nauwkeurig is. Aan de andere kan worden slechts weinig LTE-banden ondersteund, wat voor frustraties kan zorgen in de VS. Toch kunnen we de Honor 10 duidelijk aanraden.
