Kort testrapport Asus ZenBook 14 UM431DA laptop: maakt ook een goede indruk met Ryzen

Zen-tastisch. De Asus ZenBook 14 kan ook een goede indruk maken met AMD's krachtige Ryzen 7, maar kan niet zijn volle prestatiepotentieel bereiken, zelfs met ventilatoren op volle toeren. Met zijn platte ontwerp is de 14-inch notebook zoals gebruikelijk handzaam en kleine features zoals het geïntegreerde numeriek toetspad zijn prettig. Ons testrapport laat zien wat de ZenBook 14 nog meer te bieden heeft.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde relatief trage responstijden in onze tests en is misschien te traag voor games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 47 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd vergelijkbaar is met het gemiddelde (24.7 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd vergelijkbaar is met het gemiddelde (39.2 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 44 Hz ≤ 20 % helderheid instelling

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 44 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) aan een helderheid van 20 % en lager. Boven deze helderheid zou er geen flickering / PWM mogen optreden.

De frequentie van 44 Hz is erg laag en kan dus aanleiding geven tot geïrriteerde ogen en hoofdpijn bij langer gebruik.

Ter vergelijking: 50 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 18099 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 2500000) Hz waargenomen.

Met de Asus ZenBook 14 UM431DA krijg je als consument een notebook met een geweldig ontwerp dat makkelijk vervoerbaar is voor een relatief lage prijs. De behuizing ziet er kwalitatief goed uit en diverse decoratieve aspecten doen de notebook er duurder uitzien. Hiernaast heb je ook nog het geïntegreerde numeriek toetsenbord, wat achteraf gezien een vrij handige toevoeging blijkt te zijn. De poortconfiguratie is solide. Alhoewel Wi-Fi 5 niet een grote stap vooruit is, zijn de draadloze verbinding nog steeds snel en up-to-date.

De ZenBook 14 is een solide notebook met een aantrekkelijk ontwerp. Helaas faalt de notebook erin de volledige potentie van de CPU te gebruiken.

Echter moeten toekomstige kopers zichzelf niet limiteren tot dit model met de Ryzen 7 3700U maar kunnen zelfverzekerd het model met een minder krachtige CPU kiezen. Omdat het koelsysteem 100% CPU belasting alleen heel kort vol kan houden, zijn de prestaties op lange termijn veel slechter dan wij die hadden ingeschat voor deze processor. Omdat het niet mogelijk is om de RAM uit te breiden, moet je zorgen dat je een uitvoering koopt met genoeg RAM. Als je vooral geïnteresseerd bent in het ontwerp en cijfers op papier en niet zozeer in de werkelijke prestaties, kun je deze notebook nog steeds overwegen.
