Met de XMG Core 17 (begin 2021) voegt Schenker een gaming laptop uit het hogere middensegment toe aan zijn aanbod. De aan ons geleverde testeenheid wordt aangedreven door een Core i7-10870Hprocessor en eenGeForce RTX-3060 laptopGPU. De concurrenten omvatten apparaten zoals de MSI Alpha 17 A4DEK, deAcer Predator Helios 300 PH317-54, en de Medion Erazer Beast X10.

Aangezien de bouw van de laptop voor een groot deel identiek is aan die van zijn twee voorgangers, zullen we de behuizing, aansluitapparatuur, invoerapparaten en luidsprekers niet bespreken, behalve waar er verschillen zijn. Wat betreft de aansluitingen is er iets veranderd ten opzichte van de voorgangers: De twee Mini-DisplayPort aansluitingen zijn verwijderd, en de USB-C poort ondersteunt nu de USB 3.2 Gen 2 standaard (voorheen: USB 3.2 Gen 1) en ook DisplayPort via USB-C.

Beeldscherm - 165 Hz WQHD IPS

Hoewel de helderheidswaarde (332,7 cd/m²) van het matte 17,3-inch beeldscherm (2560 x 1440 pixels) goed uitpakt, kan het contrast (974:1) wel wat verbetering gebruiken en mist het net het doel (> 1000:1). Het 165-Hz paneel biedt snelle responstijden en produceert geen PWM-flikkering. Als alternatief biedt Schenker ook de optie voor een FHD-scherm (IPS, 144 Hz)

Bij levering biedt het beeldscherm een goede kleurweergave en voldoet het aan de doelstelling (Delta E < 3) met een kleurafwijking van 2,41. Het scherm heeft geen last van een blauwe tint. Via kalibratie kunnen enkele verbeteringen worden bereikt, waarbij de kleurafwijking daalt tot 1,19 en het grijswaardenbeeldscherm evenwichtiger wordt. De AdobeRGB (69%) en sRGB (93%) kleurruimten worden niet volledig gedekt

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde prima responstijden in onze tests maar is misschien wat te traag voor competitieve games.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.

Ter vergelijking: 52 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 9695 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 151500) Hz waargenomen.

De kijkhoeken van het IPS-paneel zijn stabiel en de inhoud van het scherm kan vanuit elke positie worden afgelezen. Buiten kan de inhoud van het scherm worden afgelezen als de zon niet te fel schijnt

Testomstandigheden

U kunt schakelen tussen de drie prestatieprofielen "Balanced", "Enthusiast" en "Overboost" via het voorgeïnstalleerde Control Center of de profielwisseltoets (naast de aan/uit-knop). Voor onze test gebruikten we het "Enthusiast" profiel (PL1/PL2: 60 watt) en de automatische ventilatorregeling. Verschillende benchmarks werden ook uitgevoerd met het "Overboost" profiel (PL1/PL2: 75 watt) geactiveerd. Tijdens de accutests werd het "Balanced" profiel gebruikt (PL1/PL2: 35 watt).

Processor

DeCore i7-10870Hocta-core processor (Comet Lake) draait op een basiskloksnelheid van 2,2 GHz. Via Turbo kan dit worden opgevoerd tot maximaal 4,2 GHz (acht kernen) en 5 GHz (enkele kern). Hyperthreading (twee threads per core) wordt ondersteund.

De processor doorloopt de CPU-tests van de Cinebench R15 benchmark op 3 tot 3,8 GHz (multi-thread) en 4 tot 4,8 GHz (single thread). In batterijbedrijf werkt de CPU op kloksnelheden tussen 2,6 en 2,9 GHz (multi-thread) en tussen 2,4 en 4,2 GHz (single thread).

Wij evalueren of de CPU Turbo ook constant wordt gebruikt in netstroombedrijf door de multi-thread test van de Cinebench R15 benchmark gedurende ten minste 30 minuten in een constante lus uit te voeren. De Turbo wordt op een gemiddeld niveau gebruikt. Het "Overboost" prestatieprofiel zorgt slechts voor een lichte verhoging van de kloksnelheid.

Over het algemeen maakt de Core i7 niet volledig gebruik van zijn mogelijkheden in de multi-thread benchmarks. Om er meer prestaties uit te halen, zouden de vermogenslimieten van de CPU moeten worden verhoogd, wat mogelijk zou zijn via het voorgeïnstalleerde Control Center, waar het maximum instelbaar 120 watt zou zijn (PL1/PL2). We hebben de CB15 loop ook met deze prestatie-instelling laten draaien om dit te testen - zonder problemen.

Grafische kaart

DeGeForce RTX-3060laptop grafische kern vertegenwoordigt Nvidia's huidige instapmodel in het GPU-hoogsegment. De GPU is in staat om gebruik te maken van snelle GDDR6 grafische opslag (6144 MB). De UHD Graphics-630in de processor geïntegreerde grafische kern is actief, en de laptop maakt gebruik van Nvidia's Optimus grafische schakeloplossing. De GeForce GPU kan in het BIOS worden gedeactiveerd.

Laptopfabrikanten kunnen de TGP en daarmee de maximaal beschikbare rekenprestaties van een RTX 3000 grafische kern vrij configureren, zolang ze maar binnen de door Nvidia gedefinieerde grenzen blijven (Overzicht van alle RTX 3060 laptops inclusief hun TGP's). Schenker breidt deze optie uit naar de gebruikers, zodat zij de TGP vrij kunnen instellen tot het maximum van 130 watt (115 watt + 15 watt Dynamic Boost).

Echter, bij een hoge TGP blijkt de prestatieverhoging echter beperkt te zijn: Ook al is het "Overboost" profiel (115 watt + 5 watt Dynamic Boost) een TGP gebruikt dat ongeveer 26% hoger ligt dan het "Enthusiast" profiel (90 watt + 5 watt dynamische boost)liggen de behaalde testresultaten slechts maximaal 10% hoger. Dit geldt zowel voor de GPU-tests als de gaming benchmarks.

Spelprestaties

De hardware is in staat om alle huidige games vloeiend naar het scherm te brengen. Over het algemeen kun je de volledige resolutie van het scherm (2560 x 1440 pixels, WQHD) en hoge tot maximale kwaliteitsinstellingen gebruiken tijdens het gamen. De FHD resolutie zou een maximaal kwaliteitsniveau mogelijk maken.

Vergeleken met alle RTX 3060 laptops die we tot nu toe hebben getest, doet de Core 17 het erg goed. Over het algemeen blijken de verschillen in de framerates tussen de apparaten niet al te groot, ondanks de verschillende TGP-configuraties. Zoals de resultaten van de Core 17 aantonen, zal zelfs een aanzienlijke verhoging van de TGP-waarde slechts leiden tot een lichte stijging van de framerates
