Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 245.1 Hz ≤ 99 % helderheid instelling

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 245.1 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) aan een helderheid van 99 % en lager. Boven deze helderheid zou er geen flickering / PWM mogen optreden.

De frequentie van 245.1 Hz is redelijk laag en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering kunnen dit dus waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen (gebruikmakend van de vermelde helderheid en lager).

Ter vergelijking: 51 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 9429 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde erg snelle responstijden in onze tests en zou zeer geschikt moeten zijn voor snelle games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 1 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (25.2 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Sony heeft goed werk geleverd met de Xperia 1. Het apparaat heeft een opvallend beeldscherm, is goed gebouwd en heeft behoorlijke prestaties. De smartphone heeft echter bijna vijf maanden nodig gehad om op de markt te verschijnen en werd in februari onthuld op MWC19. Zijn adviesprijs van €950 is niet te rechtvaardigen als andere vlaggenschepen al in prijs zijn gedaald. Terwijl je de Xperia 1 online kunt vinden voor ongeveer €900, zijn de Galaxy S10+ en OnePlus 7 Pro gedaald tot ongeveer €700. Evenzo is de P30 Pro gedaald tot slechts €650 sinds de handelsoorlog tussen Huawei en de Amerikaanse overheid.

De Sony Xperia 1 is een ideale metgezel voor mensen die onderweg films willen kijken. Er zijn echter betere opties als je niet in deze niche past.

Afgezien van de prijs maakt de Xperia 1 te veel compromissen om als een serieuze tegenstander van de beste vlaggenschepen van 2019 te worden beschouwd. Het gaat vooral om het 21: 9-scherm. Het paneel ziet er goed uit en is praktisch voor multitasking, maar er is nauwelijks enige inhoud voor geoptimaliseerd, waardoor je blijft zitten met ingezoomde video's. Een afwijkende beeldverhouding is verre van ideaal en we willen benadrukken dat 21: 9 op dit moment meer nadelen heeft dan voordelen.

De Xperia 1 heeft ook geen geweldige camera's. De naar de voorzijde gerichte sensor van 8 MP is ondermaats, net als de kwaliteit bij weinig licht van de primaire 12 MP-sensor aan de achterzijde. Het weglaten van draadloos opladen is een klein gebrek, maar het is er een die ons eraan herinnert dat de Xperia 1 niet zo rijk is aan functies als zijn rivalen. Op onverklaarbare wijze heeft Sony een 3,330 mAh-batterij geïntegreerd, die het nooit lang zal volhouden als deze een 6,5-inch 4K-scherm en een Snapdragon 855 SoC moet voeden.

Kortom, de Xperia 1 is een uitstekende smartphone op zichzelf. Het scoort hoog op het ontwerp, het  beeldscherm en de prestaties, maar het schiet tekort wanneer het wordt vergeleken met andere, meer functie-rijke, en vaak goedkopere smartphones die dit jaar zijn uitgebracht.
