Razer heeft dan wel enkele pogingen nodig gehad, maar ze zijn er eindelijk in geslaagd om een praktisch perfecte Blade-laptop en een van de beste gaming-laptops voor zijn formaat af te leveren. Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde erg snelle responstijden in onze tests en zou zeer geschikt moeten zijn voor snelle games.

Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (39.6 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.

Ter vergelijking: 51 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 13646 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 2500000) Hz waargenomen.

Historisch gezien hebben Razer Blade Pro laptops altijd al bijzondere features gehad om zich te onderscheiden van de concurrentie. De Blade Pro 2015 had bijvoorbeeld een unieke screenpad, terwijl de Blade Pro 2017 mechanische toetsen, trackpad-verlichting, THX-certificatie en een volumewiel had. De 2019 Blade Pro 17 laat al deze nieuwigheden vallen en focust op de basis. Het resultaat is de beste Blade-laptop die Razer ooit heeft aangeleverd. De generationele verbeteringen zijn merkbaar en niet slechts minimaal of oppervlakkig; het toestel is 22 procent lichter, 24 procent kleiner, 30 procent helderder en 14 procent energie-efficiënter tijdens het gamen, terwijl de grafische prestaties 39 procent beter zijn dan de vorige generatie Blade Pro 2017 met GTX 1080. Gooi daarbij het eenvoudig uitbreidbare RAM en opslag en je hebt een gaming-laptop die alle juiste vakjes lijkt af te vinken. 

Er zijn verschillende aspecten die de Blade Pro 17 nog beter hadden kunnen maken. Stevigere, diepere toetsen zoals de SteelSeries-toetsen van laptops van MSI hadden de feedback kunnen verbeteren, terwijl het sponsachtige clickpad wat had mogen spieken bij de MacBook Pro. De ventilatoren zijn in High Performance stiller dan die van de Blade Pro 2017, maar blijven aan de luide kant met meer dan 50 dB(A). Macro-toetsen om te switchen tussen Balanced en High Performance zouden heel wat makkelijker geweest zijn dan steeds te moeten doorklikken in Synapse. Integratie van een aparte subwoofer had de audiokwaliteit dan weer aanzienlijk kunnen verbeterd hebben zonder THX-certificatie te vereisen. Daarnaast is de kabel van de voeding wat te stijf en had deze dunner kunnen zijn voor een betere draagbaarheid. Deze minpunten zijn echter niet groot genoeg om echt roet in het eten te gooien voor wat anders een uitstekende gaming-laptop is voor zijn formaat en ultradunne profiel.

Prijs is mogelijk een obstakel die gamers ervan kan weerhouden om de sprong te wagen. Voor ongeveer 2500 euro kunnen gebruikers een Lenovo Legion Y740-17ICH met dezelfde Core i7-9750H CPU en RTX 2080 Max-Q GPU kopen als onze configuratie van de Blade Pro 17 van 3200 euro. Of de objectief gezien stevigere en misschien ook luxueuzere behuizing van de Razer de meerprijs waard is, is iets dan je enkel voor jezelf kan uitmaken. Volgens ons is het dit alleszins wel, zeker omwille van de aanzienlijke verbeteringen ten opzichte van de Blade Pro 2017.

Razer heeft zijn Blade Pro-serie gestroomlijnd met een sterkere gaming-ervaring als resultaat. Als je op zoek bent naar een dunne 17-inch gaming-laptop kan je de opgeblazen Blade Pro 2017 laten liggen en de afgeslankte Blade Pro 17 in overweging nemen. Hij kost wel wat meer dan sommige concurrenten, maar hij voelt en gamet ook beter.
